English Test (40pts)

I- Read the following text carefully.

Superstar

A) Roberto Carlos was born in a small village called Garça in São Paulo State in 1973. When he was seven, his family moved to the city of São Paulo. “It was a very small house and I shared a room with my three sisters,” he remembers. “We played together and had lots of fun. I didn’t always behave but I didn’t do anything really naughty!”

B) Today, Carlos’ parents have a big house and two cars. They became rich but they didn’t change their style of living. “My father is a truck driver and he still works every day,” Carlos says. “I asked him many times to stop but he won’t.” Carlos’ father took him to watch Santos, the local football team, as soon as he was able to walk.

C) “I started playing football since then,” Carlos says. “First, I played in the small street outside our house. We used stones to make the goals. When a car came along, we had to stop playing until the car went by. Then, we put the stones and continued playing.”

D)Carlos wanted to be footballer when he was a child. “I am lucky,” he says. “I just did things at the right time. I play now for my country and last year, my club won the European Champions League. However, football is sometimes a dangerous sport. It’s easy to hurt yourself while you’re playing or for someone to injure you.”

E) Carlos is famous for his free kicks and he is able to bend the ball around a wall of players. He practices most days a week and prefers to spend time at home in the evenings. Few of his friends are footballers. “You never know who your best friends are,” he says. “My only real friend is my father.”
