Annoucements / ·  Senator Bishop Scott recognized 3 student athletes with a 3.4 and 3.8 grade point average. He would like AS to acknowledge them with something to commensurate their achievement. Suggests something from the Honor Society. No final decision was made as to how AS will honor these scholars.
·  Black History Month dinner was a success. Faculty is encouraged to attend, if possible, all student events.
·  ASCOA Student, Christy, shared a upcoming student event called Club Olympics. They need faculty and staff to judge on April 3rd and 4th. AS Senator Jamar Mears and Faculty Jane Smithson will attend and represent faculty.
5. Action Items / ·  Mathew Goldstein is on sabbatical. Jeff Sanceri appointed and accepted the interim Senate position. Jeff term of service will end June 30, 2017.
·  Jayne Smithson was appointed and approved to be one of DAS representatives for COA.
·  Please email Rochelle to let her know if you are interested in attending any upcoming ASCCC Institutes or Regional Meetings. The district will pay for transportation, hotel, registration, etc... Please review the list, and register as soon as possible. Will send information on how to complete travel form.
·  AS taskforce committee was formed for the purpose of creating a COA DE Rollout Canvas Plan. Appointed to serve on this taskforce: Ann Buchalter, chair, Taskforce members: Sabeen Sandu, Maurice Jones, Vinh Pham, Jennifer Fowler, Carolyn Johnson, Drew Burgess, Wanda Sabir, and Jeff Sanceri, Taskforce will meet, develop plan and report back to AS and District DE committee.
·  AS will form a DE Sub-Committee. Primary objectives: develop a DE Plan, collaborate with District DE Committee, and collaborate with COA Curriculum committee. AS appointed Ann Buchalter as committee chair to lead in the development and implementation plans. Membership, and specific responsibilities forthcoming.
·  Accreditation – Tina Vasconellos, the newly assigned AOL, provided updates and request for Accreditation Oversight Committee members. COA Midterm report due March 2018. Midterm outline was distributed and briefly discussed.
·  Academic Senate Spring 2017 priority- promote and educate faculty on the purpose and function of AS. Jennifer Fowler, chair. Senate Members: Maurice Jones, Jeff Sanceri and Carla Pegues. Suggestion to promote AS: Flex Day Open House, Newsletter to highlight people, short videos, social media, etc, .
·  Smart Classroom Jeff Sanceri, Gary Hasbrouck and Wanda Sabir will work with VC Cole in designing smart classrooms..
·  AS formed a Part-time Issue Taskforce for addressing special needs and requests from adjunct faculty. Senate members: Gary Hasbrouck and Tracey Coleman co-chairs; Robert Bishop, Giselle Bousquet, and (Maurice Jones-advisor) are the task force members.

·  Elections- 3 divisions now (1) form election committee 4/12. All Senators and officers should be decided by May.
