CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

The Club Championships (heats and finals) will take place from 12 noon on Sunday 25th March. Beginners’ Cup heats, Individual Medley (heats and finals) and Handicap heats will take place on the preceding Thursday, 22nd March, from 6:40pm.

Entries

Senior & Junior Squads

Swimmers in these squads are normally expected to take a full part in the Club Championships so as usual, will be automatically entered into the Club Championships (see list attached). If you are unable to participate then you must inform Mark () or Sharon () by noon on Sunday 11th March, giving a reason for your withdrawal.

Learn-to Swim (LTS)

Our LTS swimmers (those who swim at any time between 6-7pm on Thursdays) should enter by emailing the form to David Sharratt, or by handing a paper copy to their coach, by noon on 11th March. All LTS swimmers who are at the deep end are encouraged to take part, as well as any others who can swim a length in any stroke. We have boys and girls Beginners Cup events for the youngest members of the club (those who are still 8 or under on 31/12/18) and these swimmers may also enter one or more u10 events should they wish. Parents/guardians – please ask your child’s coach for guidance if you are unsure.

Development swimmers

Swimmers whose only session is on Wednesdays at St Leonards pool, are very welcome to enter. Email the completed form to David Sharratt ( ) or give a printout to your coach by noon on 11th March.


Schedule and Info

Thursday: Warm-ups on Thursday will begin at approx. 6:40pm (arrive at 6:30pm), with Beginners’ Cup heats starting around 7:00pm. Once these are over, your child may leave, unless s/he is also entered for the 100m Individual Medley (IM). Swimmers should bring their gala shirts if they have one (club spares will also be available), and a spare towel for poolside. A small snack (banana/cereal bar etc) is allowed. All swimmers should have water bottles. Please do not leave any litter on poolside.

Following the Beginners Cup heats, the IM heats and finals will take place, finishing by 9pm.

Sunday: Warm-ups on Sunday will begin at noon; swimmers should arrive on poolside at 11:45am. Session times will be finalized after all entries are in but are expected to be:

  • Session 1 (Heats): 12:00-1:30pm. Backstroke and Breaststroke, plus U16 100m freestyle.

LUNCH BREAK

  • Session 2 (Heats): 2:15-3:45pm. Butterfly and Freestyle

TEA BREAK

  • Session 3 (Finals, including finals of Beginners Cup): 4:30-6:45pm. Beginners’ Cup finalists with no other races may leave after their finals and presentations (which should by 5:30pm).

Please be aware that the coaches are not responsible for the children once they are off poolside and no provision is made for supervision of children in the breaks between sessions. In particular, no swimmers should go outside unsupervised, and should be appropriately dressed. Swimmers are requested not to bring mobile phones onto poolside, and must not use them in the changing rooms. Parents/guardians may take photographs (except in the changing rooms please) but a photography request form (available at the front desk) must be completed first.

The Club Championships are always a highlight of the Step Rock swimming calendar. If you haven’t yet seen this side of the club “in action”, please do come along and support on Sunday and make it a great atmosphere for the swimmers, especially in this 90th anniversary celebratory year.
