Question: Are there any manpower requirements when using a ladder? When someone is on a step ladder do they need to have a second person there?
Answer: In Michigan the requirement for the use of portable ladders to include step ladders is found in General Industry Safety Standard, Part 4. Portable Ladders. Rule 446 of this standard specifically addresses the placement and use of step ladders. There is no requirement for a second person to be present when a step ladder is in use.
