Coldplay front man Chris Martin doesn’t worry about whether people like the band or not he tells Anthony Mason in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast Jan. 31 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

“I feel like we sound the way we always wanted to,” Martin tells Mason. “And we feel at peace with what we’ve done to get here.”

Does that imply there was a time he wasn’t entirely at peace with the direction of the band?

“Well, I think anybody when you start a band your purpose is to never offend anybody,” says Martin. “And you get to a certain level of success and it’s apparent that you have offended some people. It took me and I think it took us a while to let that all go.”

Martin says he’s okay knowing some people are not Coldplay fans.

“I don’t worry about it anymore. And, also, I don’t think we could ever be classified as being, you know, classically rock ‘n’ roll. So – it’s okay,” he says. “I think if you’re looking for the leather pants, cocaine thing, we’re probably not going to be the band you want to see.”

Martin talks with Mason about Coldplay’s plans as the halftime act at SUPER BOWL 50, which will be broadcast Feb. 7, 2016 on CBS, the band’s latest album and upcoming tour, and getting advice from Bruce Springsteen on preparing for the halftime show. Mason also catches up with the whole band to talk about the upcoming tour, and to take viewers behind the scenes as Coldplay rehearses for the Super Bowl performance.

Martin also shares with Mason his experience working with David Bowie.

“He called me Sticky Martinez for some reason,” Martin says, adding he had no idea where the name came from. “But I hold that as – he, David Bowie, gave me a weird nickname.”

CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00-10:30 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
