Quick Note on Discipline and Team Rules

Do Right! This generally covers a multitude of miscues.

Be on Time! When we show up late we show that we don’t care about our teammates’ time as much as we care about our own.Tardiness will be discouraged by extra conditioning. If tardiness continues to be a problem, the athlete may be put on suspension or removed from the program.

Missing Practice or Event! If a player is going to miss practice for any reason, the coach must be informed directly. If it is last minute, the parent must contact the coach.

Training Room!Players will participate as capable, with a doctor’s note being the exception. Students must participate regularly to receive credit.Athletes must attend practice. Injured players must dress out, attend practice and do treatments in the athletic training room as prescribed. Excused absences are: Dr’s appointments with a note. Training room is CLOSED and off limits during the athletic period. Any treatment will be done before or after school ONLY.

Be Respectful! Respect others and you will be respected.

Social Media! As listed above…RESPECT is the key! Any online communication (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) that involves inappropriate comments or photos with not be tolerated.

Dress Appropriately! Wear what is asked of you.

Take care of your business in the Classroom! If you do not pass you cannot play.

The Program Cont’

Transportation! All athletes will travel to away meets on the bus and return to the school on the bus. The only exception is in the case of an emergency. REMEMBER THAT TRAVELING IS A PRIVILEGE.

The Team! Will participate in community activities and fundraisers during the week or weekend. Athletes will need to actively attend these functions and represent the program well.

Manvel Maverick Booster Club! We need your help!!!Our Athletic Booster Club supports our athletes and programs by fundraising and donations. Our first meeting is on the first Monday of each month @ 6:00 p.m., in the L.G.I. (Manvel HS). Please come and be supportive for our track program.

Cell Phones!Cell phones are NOT permitted during class time and/or the track. Parents will be given a practice time schedule when to pick up their child from practice. Failure to comply and follow the guidelines will be dismissal from the team.

Awards!Athlete’s must complete the season and score (10) points in the major varsity meets, or place (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in the district meet as an individual or as a member of a relay team to receive letter jacket.Athletes must be in good standing with coaches, teachers, administrators, students and all other staff members.Athlete will not receive awards if player quits the team, is ineligible, or if athlete is removed before the season ends.

Understand your role! You are the student/athlete not the coach. Submit to those who are over you and stick to the plan.

ATHLETES MUST ABIDE BY THE ALVIN ISD AND MANVEL HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC HANDBOOK AT ALL TIMES.

** Rules are only in place to keep us all moving in the same direction. Failure to follow these rules/guidelines can be grounds for dismissal.

Discipline

Team Disciplinary Policy

  • All track and field students/athletes will wear issued equipment to travelto and from meets. Lady Mavericks will wear issued equipment on delegated days at the discretion of the coaching staff.
  • All track and field student/athletes are responsible for ALL equipment issued. A $50 fee will be assessed for EACH item not returned.
  • All students who fail to turn in assignments, will also fail to participate in practice and ultimately in meets, if assignments are not completed.
  • All Lady Mavericks will represent the school at all times, whether in the classroom, on the track or in the community, they will be respectful of themselves and those around them.
  • All Lady Mavericks involved in ANY inappropriate online communication (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) display of bullying, inappropriate comments or photos will be dismissed from the program.
  • All Lady Mavericks who do not show up on time to practice will not participate in the upcoming track meet.
  • All Lady Mavericks who encounter any disciplinary problems will have consequences on the track/field.
  • If a student-athlete is absent the day before a meet or any day during a meet week, they must come in early before school to make-up, if not then the student-athlete will not be able to travel or participate in the next scheduled meet.

Consequences of Misbehavior

  • ISS, Saturday School, Detentions, Tardies to class, emails sent by teachers, administrators or referrals sent to the office and any suspensions will result in a 100 yard suicide on the football field for every day you are subject to fail in this area.
  • 6:00 AM: DISCIPLINE MONDAYS: The above mentioned must be corrected on Monday of each week. It is imperative that the student athlete coordinates with the coach implementing the work-out and resolves the matter prior to the next day.
  • For ANY curse words heard by coaches whether it be on the track or in the hallway, classroom, outside of school, or in the community you will have a suicide for every letter.

The Workout Progression

  1. Ability to execute under pressure at a high rate of speed or endurance….

Which increases your….

  1. Chances of winning the event

“With the ability to compete under pressure at a high rate of speed you enable yourself to make improvements in yourself, not only as an athlete, but as a person”.

Amessage from the coach:

The mission of Alvin ISD Athletic Department is to provide an opportunity which promotes sportsmanship, pride, dignity and self-confidence. The goal is to discover ultimately, that the true meaning of winning is doing one’s best. Furthermore, the Lady Mavericks Mission is Class, Effort, and Discipline that will equal EXCELLENCE. I believe by incorporating both the Alvin ISD mission and goal statement and the Lady Maverick mission and goals are the key components to life.

By focusing on the mission and goal statement set forth we can see ourselves as what we hope to be: District Champions, Area Champions, Regional Champions and STATE Champions! We have to work everyday like we have to defend it. In order for us to achieve what we are hoping for, we must be willing to do the following things.

Team Focus

  1. CLASS ….on and off the track
  2. EFFORT….total relentless effort in everything you do
  3. DISCIPLINE…do it right every time
  4. EXCELLENCE…..

Individual Focus

  1. Do nothing out of selfishness, think team before self…
  2. Walk in humility…no one person can win without their team

Let me welcome you and your athlete to The Lady Maverick Track and Field Program. As your athlete’s head coach, I am looking forward to working with you. Together, we can make this a great year. In order to carry out the vision of this program, it is important that we have class, effort and excellent discipline. Therefore, I am using this method to inform my parents and athletes of the rules and consequences we will use throughout the school year. Also, please sign the copy provided and return it to me via your child showing that you understand and agree with what is being asked of you both. Your help and assistance are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Coach Dianna Jones
