CLASS TITLE: REHABILITATION ENGINEERING/TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANT - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work assessing physical capabilities and needs of disabled persons and designing and implementing adaptive equipment, architectural modification, specialized tools and work stations for disabled persons.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Synthesizes the essential physical elements of the task and integrates them with the capabilities of the disabled person.
  • Designs and implements the fabricated product or modification with the Individualized Written Rehabilitation Plan as directed by the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
  • Assesses physical capabilities of disabled clients from personal interviews, medical reports and observation.
  • Selects commercial products or designs unique products to fill the needs of the client.
  • Prepares reports and consults with Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors as to the Rehabilitation Engineering portion of the Individualized Written Rehabilitation Plan.
  • Facilitates and supervises vendors to ensure timely and accurate fabrication, construction, and/or modification.
  • Assists vendor with installations.
  • Follows up to ensure proper use and fitting for clients.
  • Gives presentations to interested groups on products and procedures for use of services.
  • Prepares reports showing status of projects and progress of rehabilitation engineering technology.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of physical effects of disabling conditions.
  • Knowledge of materials used in design of adaptive tools, construction of work stations, driving aids and modification of vehicles.
  • Knowledge of design practice and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) recommended practices concerning rehabilitation engineering technology for disabled persons.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws concerning rehabilitation engineering technology for disabled persons.
  • Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Ability to design tools, furniture and architectural modifications.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
