CLASS TITLE:ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST - CIT

This is work conducting or assisting in conducting chemical, biochemical, bacteriological, plant pathological, plant physiological, engineering, or food technological research related to the harvesting, handling, packaging, processing, development, and /or evaluation of citrus products in the Department of Citrus.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Conducts or assists in conducting chemical research activities related to the harvesting, handling, packaging, processing, and/or development of citrus products.
  • Assists in planning and conducting bacteriological experiments relating to problems resulting from the handling and processing of citrus fruits and products.
  • Conducts or assists in conducting research programs concerned with applying science to the production, preparation, processing, packaging, and utilization of citrus products.
  • Conducts or assists in conducting biochemical research of changes occurring in the growth, maturation, handling, processing, and decaying of citrus fruits.
  • Conducts or assists in conducting studies of life cycles of major post-harvest fruit pathogens to determine the influence of harvesting and handling processes.
  • Conducts or assists in conducting research designed to understand the causes and effects of de-greening and coloring processes of citrus fruits in order to enhance the internal and external colors and appearance.
  • Conducts or assists in conducting research in the development and perfection of new and improved citrus harvesting equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major in one of the physical or natural sciences and three years of professional scientific research experience; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one or the physical or natural sciences and two years of professional experience as described above; or
  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in one of the physical or natural sciences.
