Teacher Activities / 1.  Facilitate class discussion and engage in the importance of what we can do to have as little of an impact on the environment as possible.
Student Activities / 1.  Read Chapter 14, “Your Environment”
2.  Class discussion and participation.
3.  Activity “What can Highland do to help the Environment”
Differentiated Learning Styles / Students are collaboratively working with classmates of various learning styles (ELL, SpEd, Gifted, etc). Directions are revisited for clarification. Teacher monitors each group by walking around asking questions to extend and expand on student learning. Use of technology and hands-on activities encourages visual aids and teacher questioning promotes thinking.
Assessment/Evaluation / 1.  Review of vocabulary and discussion.
2.  Evaluation of knowledge through questions and answers.
Academic Vocabulary / Modification: Vocabulary given in both English and Spanish as needed
Natural Resources: a material that is supplied by nature
Pollution: the changing of air, water, and land from clean to dirty and unsafe
Soil: the loose material in which plants grow
Fossil Fuel: a fuel, such as coal oil, or natural gas, which comes from the remains of prehistoric plants and animals
Conservation: the saving of resources
Recycling: turning waste items into products that can be used
Landfill: a large pit where waste is buried between layers of earth
Decompose: to break down and become part of the soil
Incineration: the disposal of waste by burning
Biodegradable: able to be broken down and absorbed by the environment
Recursos naturales: un material que se suministra por la naturaleza
Contaminación : el cambio de aire , agua y tierra desde limpio a sucio y peligroso

2.  Understand the details of specifics that would require you to be NO impact on the environment.
Modifications: Handouts/projects are written in Spanish as needed
