City of Birmingham Choir

Choral Conductors Workshop

Saturday 5 February 2011

10.30 am – 3.30 pm

Lunch will be provided

Venue – St Faith and St Laurence Church, Croftdown Road, Harborne, Birmingham

Workshop Leader – Adrian Lucas

This workshop is intended to provide an opportunity to improve the techniques involved in preparing and conducting choral groups. Participants will probably be involved in working with school choirs (primary or secondary), church choirs or any other group of singers at a variety of levels.

There will be a morning session covering planning, score preparation and techniques for conducting rehearsals and performances. In the afternoon session extra singers from the Choir will join the participants to form a singing group. Participants will each have a chance to work with the group.

The repertoire used will be taken from Handel’s Messiah and from a selection of music which will be notified in advance and can be readily downloaded from the Choral Public Domain Library website. The pieces actually used on the day will be selected as seems appropriate.

Applications to take part in the workshop are invited from members and non-members of the City of Birmingham Choir. Participants are asked to pay a fee of £50 for non-members and £40 for Choir members. This will include the provision of a light lunch. The workshop is being promoted as part of the Choir’s Voice Factory scheme but will be self funded from fees paid.

If the workshop is over subscribed, selection of participants will be based on experience as indicated on the application form. The number of participants will be limited to 15.
