City Green, Inc. is seeking full-time Farm Crew Leaders for the Summer of 2012 (May 21st – August 17th). City Green’s Summer Internship Program offers paid summer internships to local College Students to work on the City Green Farms, Farm Stands and Mobile Markets. In addition to providing employment opportunities, the internship program provides all participants with job training related to their internship responsibilities and a unique community development component.

Farm Crew Leaders supervise and mentor a group of 4 high school interns (Crew Members) who work at the City Green Farms and Markets during the summer months. Farming activities include: planting, weeding, watering and harvesting. Market activities include: preparing produce for market; setting up and running the City Green Farm Stands and Mobile Markets; providing excellent customer service; implementing customer surveys and, documenting and reporting the day’s sales.

All Farm Crew Leaders will participate in a paid 5-week hands-on training facilitated by City Green staff that will orient and prepare them for their work including training in: Organic Farming Practices; Sustainable Agriculture; Leadership and Supervision Skills; and, Nutrition. Farm Crew Leaders will receive daily supervision and support from City Green staff.

About City Green:
City Green is a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating the establishment of urban farms, community gardens, youth and school gardens in northern New Jersey’s cities to enrich the lives of inner city residents while cultivating education in public health, nutrition and the environment.

The City Green Farms program includes two organic farm sites – ½ acre site in EastsidePark in Paterson and a 1-acre site in Clifton at Schultheis Farm. The Farm program produces a variety of naturally produced vegetables that are currently sold at two City Green Farm Stands in Clifton and Paterson, through our Mobile Market program in Paterson and our “Good Food Box” Donation program. Our market program is specifically placed in food deserts in Paterson (Farm Stands and Mobile Markets) and through a grant program we are able to accept AND double customers Federal Food Assistance coupons (WIC, SNAP, FMNP and Senior FMNP).
