Updating Shelf Sequence/Location codes using the RF Unit

This topic explains how to update the location code for items in IMU. Shelf sequence is important because it gives each item an “address” in the system.

Before you begin:

• Do recovery for merchandise before starting.

• Z-flags are mapped to the location field as well. Do not overwrite the Z-flag or the item will become “live” again.

• The RF unit changes the location field in IMU instantly. There is no “RPI” to update.

• Print new bin tags by 4-foot section. Only “live” items will have new bin tags. N flag items will not have new bin tags.

StepAction
  1. Log into the RF Unit and choose 2. Shelf Manager Constants.
  1. At the Shelf Manager Constants screen, enter the following:

SHELF MANAGER CONSTANTS
FILE MAINTENANCE MODE:N
PRICE CHECK MODE:N
PIP MODE:N
LOCATION MODE:S
PURCHASE MODE:N
<Y>ES <N>O <I> <S>
  1. After entering the “S” at the Location mode prompt, the screen advances to the following screen. Enter fields as shown (enter your store in the Store field).

ADD QOH TO PIP:N
ADD UPC CODE:N
PRICE TO DISPLAY:R
PRINTER TYPE:Q
PRINT LABELS:N S Y
NUMBER OF LABELS:1
STORE:7
<Y>ES <N>O <P>RPOMPT
  1. After entering the store number, the screen advances to the following screen. Here is where you scan items to be shelf sequenced.

SKU:
DESC:
UPC:
Q:/ 0
L1: ______B#ST: 7
RC______
MFG# ______
IMU:
  1. With the cursor in the SKU field, scan or type in an item. If you typed it in, press [Enter].
  1. The item information will fill in the fields. The cursor is now at the L1 field. This is where you put in the new location code.

NOTE: The current location code for the item will display in the IMU field at the bottom of the screen.

  1. If the item is not Z-flagged, go to step 8.

OR

If the item is Z-flagged, go to step 9.

  1. Type in the new location code and press [Enter]. The location code has been updated and the location code remains in the L1 field. Choosing option “S” on the Shelf Manager Constants field holds the value into the location field until you clear it. Continue scanning in items, checking for Z flags in the current location, until finished.
  1. If the item is Z-flagged, press the Clear button on the RF unit, type Z and press [Enter]. This is done so we do not overwrite the Z flag for the item.
  1. The Z flag remains in the L1 field until cleared. Scan the next item. If its current location is not a Z, press the Clear button and enter the new location code and press [Enter]. Continue until finished.

Maintaining physical inventory with the RF unit

The RF unit can be utilized to maintain physical inventory. This includes, but is not limited to, zero counts and cycle counts. The following instructions explain how to update system counts using the RF unit. Before using the RF unit to change and/or verify system counts, it is imperative that the user is competent in:

  1. Zero counts
  2. PIP/RPI
  3. IMU fields
  4. Receiving schedule

StepAction
  1. Press [Enter] to connect to Eagle. Type “m” at the login: prompt.
  1. Select 2 – SHELF MANAGER and press [Enter].
  1. At the Shelf Manager Constants screen, enter the following:

SHELF MANAGER CONSTANTS

UPC: 075577212071
Q:/ _6_
L1: ______B#ST: 7
RC______

IMU:
  1. If a count record already exists, is it because of:

•Item on the wrong peg hook or shelf?

•Item in the wrong home?

•Backstock?

•Multiple facings?

  1. Recount the item and enter the new count as in Steps 7 and 8. Continue until finished.
  1. All scanned items are listed in the PIP screen. This list can be printed to look up items in IMU to look for discrepancies. PIP can also be edited for recounted items.

Physical Inventory Reporting – Finalizing counts

This topic explains how to run the Physical Inventory Report (RPI) to update the counts entered in Physical Inventory Posting (PIP). This step finalizes the counts and changes Quantity on Hand for the items. This report must be run to adjust counts in the system.

NOTE: If using the RF unit, the name of the person who entered the counts will be SYSTEM.

  1. Click on the [F4] Run button to execute the report.
  1. The report is spooled and printed. The new counts are now finalized. The Last Physical field in IMU Stocking tab is updated with the current date.

Troubleshooting the RF unit

Reset the RF Unit

The RF unit is a handheld computer. Computers need to be restarted. If you experience problem with the RF unit (scanning, connecting, etc.), perform a soft reset. To reset the RF unit:

  1. Press the “End” button to exit the Eagle applications.
  1. Simultaneously press and hold the “Func”, “End” and Lightbulb keys.
  1. The screen will display the Symbol sign. The system will reboot to the Windows desktop.
  1. Tap the Windows icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Select TelnetCE. This connects to the Eagle application.

QUITCRT on the RF unit

QUITCRT resets the terminal number assignment in Eagle. Perform this function if the soft reset does not work. If connection between the RF unit and the system drops, the system thinks the RF unit is still logged on and the RF unit will not be able to connect.

  1. When attempting to reconnect to Eagle, this message appears and is cutoff on the screen:

ACHED –

fault in N]?
|
  1. At the prompt, type “Y” and press [Enter].
  1. At the next screen, type the terminal number of the RF unit and press [Enter]. This number can be found on the sticker on the front of your RF unit.
  1. The RF unit will reset the connection and the menu will appear.
