SENIOR CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION MEETINGS
1. Introduction
1.1 The Examinations and Assessment Directorate in conjunction with the
District Offices will be holding a series of information meetings with the
Grade 12 educators regarding the Senior Certificate Examination.
1.2Principals/Heads of Institutions are requested to ensure that their Grade 12 educators attend these meetings. They must also inform all educators involved in the teaching of Grade 12 part-time candidates.
1.3The meetings will take place in February/March 2004(see Annexure A)
and all the meetings will start at 14:30. Please note the change in the
order of the districts.
1.4Attendance of the discussions is essential. In 2003 a total number of 8156 educators attended these information meetings.
1.5 Examiners and the internal moderators will address these meetings. Head
Office and Districts officials dealing with Curriculum and Assessment will
Attend the meetings to assist with answering of questions during question
time. Almost all subjects will be discussed including the subjects set by the
National Department of Education. However, for exceptions refer to
Annexure A (pages 4 & 5).
2.Issues for discussion
2.1Report back on the marking of answer scripts of the 2003 Senior Certificate Examinations(refer to the Internal Moderator’s Report).
2.2The format and structure of the question papers for 2004 (as outlined in the syllabi and guidelines).
NB: No information regarding the content of the question papers will be discussed.
3.Booking
3.1Principals/educators are advised to book well in advance so that host schools can accommodate the final numbers that are faxed through to them by the Teachers' Centres (see Annexure B).
3.2It is essential that schools and other institutions arrange bookings for their Grade 12 educators at least ten days in advance. This will eliminate any problems regarding congestion and will ensure meaningful contact with the examiners.
3.3Educators from LSEN Schools, ABET centres and other institutions that have registered with the GDE to write the Senior Certificate (Grade 12) Examinations must also attend the meetings.
3.4The host school willnot serve tea/coffee or any refreshments but they may have their tuck-shops open. The host school willnot undertake any photocopying or faxing.
4.Examination guidelines
Guideline documents were sent to all schools in January 2003. It was indicated clearly which guidelines were new, have small changes or did not have changes at all.
Educators are requested to bring their own copies of the guidelines to these meetings. Principals must ensure that educators have the new documents.
