The Professional Cricketers Association

The tradition of former professional cricketers teaching and coaching in schools is one that is steeped in history and has also played a huge part in producing the next generation of professionals in the game.

The Professional Cricketers Association in conjunction with its Personal Development and welfare programme aims to support the players past and present in a number of areas. The PCA has 6 Personal Development Managers working regionally at the counties. The PCA aims to have a Personal Development plan for every player in the country, looking at career and training plans to help players become better prepared for their transitions from the game.

Jason Ratcliffe: Assistant Chief Executive/Head of Player Services PCA

“Opening up links with schools to advertise and fill teaching and coaching positions is something we have done in the past. We have advertised roles on our website and circulated vacancies to our members, which has at times helped fill these positions. Working closer with HMC is something we look forward to, in order to support both the Schools and each player’s career plans.”

Ian Thomas: National Personal Development Manager

“The demand from players to gain a teaching or coaching position or even work experience is very popular amongst our members. The transferable skills they offer are strongly weighted towards this market and it is the value that they bring from being a professional sportsman that makes them a valuable employee. We work hard with them to manage their expectations and support their training, to further add to their skill base. We look forward to working with HMC to make schools aware of credible individuals that match a school’s requirement.”

Ian Power: HMC Membership Secretary

“HMC member schools continue to provide excellent opportunities for professional sportsmen and women to enter careers in teaching and coaching. The expertise that they bring is highly sought after and valued in an environment where top quality sport is cherished, very well resourced and strongly promoted”.
