Cinderella Around the World

Find a group of three. Each person needs to pick a Cinderella story and read it quietly. When all group members have finished reading, take turns summarizing your story for the group. Then answer the following:

1) Identify the characters and items that the story has in common—like the wicked step-mother figure, the prince figure, the glass slipper, etc.

2) Write the title of each story and out beside the title, describe what you thought was the most unique thing or biggest difference from the Disney version.

3) Describe something within each story that tells you this is from the country or region that is written at the top of the page. (Use things like clothing, names, language/words, customs, foods, land descriptions, etc.)

4) As a group, write your own version of the Cinderella story incorporating things from your cultural groups. Consider age/generation, ethnicity, geographic location, gender, socio-economic status, family status, icons of the time, language, etc. You should play off of stereotype. Be creative and have fun, BUT be appropriate! Use GOOD GRAMMAR AND SPELLING. You will receive two grades for this.

It should be at least 2 pages in length and tell a complete story!
