To Kill A Mockingbird

Final “Artistic” Project

Choose one of the following artistic projects relating to To Kill A Mockingbird:

One-Person Projects:

  1. Make a scrapbook/memory book/photo album of items Jem or Scout might make. Have text accompanying the items. Think about the events that happened in the novel. Decide which scenes or pictures from the novel a character would want to remember. Then illustrate these events for a memory book or photo album and give a description of why this picture or memento is important in the life of the character.
  1. Design a wardrobe for Scout that is “period” correct. Follow the indications in the book for the colors, etc., that she would wear. Do some fashion research to determine style of clothing during the era.
  1. Make a model of one of the houses in the story. Accompany your model with a write-up that includes the quotes from the book that describe the house.
  1. Make a treasure box like Jem or Scout might have kept. This could contain the items Boo had given the children along with other treasure that one gathers through childhood. Accompany the box with an explanation of each item, telling why you placed it in the box, what the item means to your character. Decorate the box also.

Two-person Project:

  1. Create a board game based on events and characters in the book. Your game must include the following: game board, rule sheet and clear directions, events and characters from the story on cards or on the game board.

Three-or-Four-person Project:

  1. Create a newspaper for the characters in the book. The front page should look as much like a real newspaper page as possible. The articles in the newspaper should be based on events and characters in the book and on historical/current events of the time. Be sure to include a variety of articles as a real newspaper has such as feature stories, editorials, church news, advertisements, letters to the editor, and obituaries.

OR . . . Suggest a project of your own. It must be approved by the teacher BEFORE you begin working on it!
