Suggested project

Suggested project 1

Research how your plant has been designed. What assumptions were made with respect to:

·  key treatment processes components,

·  type of water treated,

·  fixed components,

– chemicals used

– tank volumes

– optimum flow rates

What happens if water characteristics change? How flexible are the treatment processes to changes in source water characteristics? What other changes could impact on water treatment processes? What strategies are in place to deal with changes?

Suggested project 2

A water treatment plant has started a new cleaning regime using citric acid to clean their filter membranes. Recently, there has been a loss of chlorine residual in the storage tanks.

How could these events be related to each other? What steps can be put in place to fix the free chlorine levels?
