Children and Parents/Slaves and Masters

Ephesians 6:1-9

Children and Parents/Slaves and Masters

  1. Pray and ask God to reveal truth to you through His Word by His Spirit.
  1. Read Ephesians 6:1-9 on pages 1516-1517 in your Life Recovery Bible.
  1. Now, go back through these verses and re-read them slowly as you fill in the blanks below.

6:1Children, ______your parents because you ______to the Lord, for this is the ______thing to do.

(I love when He just comes right out and says this is the “right thing to do.”)

6:2______your father and mother.” This is the ______of the Ten Commandments that ends with a ______.

6:3And this is the ______: If you ______your father and mother, ______will ______a ______life, full of ______.

(Have you ever thought about the length of your life and how blessed you are being tied to how you honor your father and mother? If you have in any way dishonored your parents, this might be a good time to ask God to forgive you of that sin. (See 1 John 1:9 on page 1629.)

6:4And now a word to you ______. Don’t make your children ______by the way you ______them. Rather bring them up with the ______and ______approved by the ______.

6:5Slaves, ______your earthly masters with deep ______and ______. ______them sincerely as you would serve ______.

(Are you obeying those in authority over you with sincerity and respect like you

would serve Christ? Pray and ask God to supernaturally empower you to respond in this manner. He will never ask you to do anything that He does not

empower you to do by His Holy Spirit. (See John 15:5 on page 1366.) Apart

from Him we can do nothing.

6:6______, but not just to please your ______when they are ______. As slaves of ______, do the ______of God with ______your ______.

(That’s whole-hearted service! Pray for God to work His will through you. (See

Philippians 2:13 on page 1435.)

6:7______with ______, as though you were working for the ______rather than for ______.

6:8Remember that the ______will ______each one of us for the ______we do, whether we are slaves or free.

(Think about your life. What good have you produced for Him today? Pray for

Him to produce many good things in your life right where you are.)

6:9And in the same way, you ______must treat your slaves ______. Don’t ______them; remember, you both have the same ______in heaven, and he has no ______.

  1. Now re-read verses 1-4 and then read the footnote on the bottom of page 1428.

(Praise God that it’s not too late, no matter what we’ve done! Ask Him to live through you so that your life can draw others to Him.)

  1. Pray and ask God to work into your life what you’ve learned today:

Precious Father,

I want so much to be of use to You. Sometimes I feel like that’s not possible where I am. Remind me of my worth to You and that nothing is impossible for You! I know that by the power of Your Spirit I can forgive my parents and give them honor. Teach me to submit to the authority You have placed me under and live through me by Your Spirit. Produce good for You through me today! In the name of Jesus, my Savior, I pray. Amen.

Oh, how He loves you!!!
