Chichester Cathedral – Education Department

The School Friends was started in 2008 as a pilot scheme to encourage more schools to develop closer and long-lasting links with the Cathedral. The initial success of this has led to the creation of this new and exciting opportunity.

School Friends’ and Bookings Coordinator

This new post is supported by the Friends of Chichester Cathedral. It is anticipated that the School Friends’ scheme will develop and expand over time, and it may be that the terms and conditions of this position would reflect that success.

The School Friends’ and Bookings Co-ordinator will be accountable to, and work closely with, the Education Officer. He / she will need to:

o  take bookings from schools/colleges for visits to the Cathedral;

o  actively recruit and retain new School Friends;

o  maintain existing SF relationships, including renewals;

o  develop and manage the School Friends’ Programme;

o  actively expand and recruit School Friends;

o  design and create promotional literature including the creation and collation of ‘Welcome packs’;

o  work with the Editor to help produce the contents for the termly School Friends’ Newsletter;

o  manage the distribution of the SF Newsletter and appropriate mailings;

o  possess sufficient computer literacy (or be willing to train to do so) to manage a School Friends’ website, as and when one can be developed;

o  manage the administration associated with the above points,

o  act as an important point of liaison between schools and the Education Dept.;

o  formally report progress and issues to The Friends’ Executive Committee each year, with interim support from the Friends’ Secretary;

o  support the aims of the Education Department with relevant other duties as requested by the Education Officer;

When taking bookings, to:

o  closely monitor the Education Centre diary to ensure co-ordination with the Cathedral Diary;

o  liaise with other Cathedral Departments where appropriate;

o  raise invoices;

o  confirm all bookings in writing along the Department’s guidelines;

o  maintain computerised records of education visits;

Salary and Conditions

Hours of work: 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, three mornings a week, West Sussex Education Authority term-time only.

Annual salary: £4,806 for a 40 week year, 12 hours a week.

Full Criminal Records Bureau clearance will be an essential part of the contractual requirements.
