Job Purpose:
The main purpose of this post is to act as official chauffeur, attendant and Mace-bearer to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor (and their respective Mayoresses/consorts), when they carry out official duties both within and beyond the Borough.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
1.  Carry out duties with due regard to the Council’s Customer Care, Equal Opportunities, Information Governance, Data Protection and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
The chauffeur duties comprise:-
(a) To keep the Mayoral car clean and tidy, inside and out.
(b)  To ensure that the Mayoral car is well maintained and report any defect or damage so that repairs can be carried out as quickly as possible in accordance with existing insurance arrangements.
(c)  To drive the Mayor and Deputy Mayor (and their respective consort/Mayoress) to official functions or engagements.
(d)  As directed by the Mayor’s Office and Member Development Manager, to drive the political Leaders, other members and former mayors on official duties.
(e)  To have responsibility for ensuring that the Mayoral car is safe and secure at all times.
(f)  To ensure that the civic regalia adorning the Mayoral car is kept safe and secure and is well maintained.
The Attendant duties comprise:-
(a)  To attend the Mayor and Mayoress/Consort and Deputy Mayor and Mayoress/Consort whilst they are undertaking official engagements.
(b)  To assist with preparations for functions that are held in the Mayor’s Parlour by ensuring that supplies are replenished and, when necessary, purchasing further supplies.
(c)  To assist with serving refreshments in the Mayor’s Parlour or at Mayoral events within the Civic Centre.
(d)  To assist with clearing up at the end of functions in the Mayor’s Parlour or after those events that are organised by the Mayor’s Office, including clearing, cleaning and returning glasses, plates and cutlery.
(e)  To be responsible for the safe custody of robes and insignia, and to ensure that they are cleaned and made available when required and, when necessary, replaced.
(f)  Responsible for ensuring that the Mayor’s Office and Member Development Manager is notified when repairs to civic regalia are required and required to assist with any arrangements that are made to ensure repairs are undertaken.
(g)  To keep the silver in the Mayor’s Parlour clean and polished.
(h)  To look after official guests of the Mayor and Mayoress/consort and/or the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress/Consort at official events.
(i)  To take photographs of the Mayor and Mayoress/Consort and the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress/Consort whilst at official engagements, wherever possible and ensure that the digital camera is kept safe at all times and is charged/downloaded as necessary.
The Mace-Bearer duties include:-
(a)  To carry the Mace at Council meetings, at Civic functions and other appropriate events.
(b)  To ensure that the Mace is kept clean and polished.
(c)  To ensure that the Mace is kept safe and secure and is available when necessary.
Miscellaneous Duties:-
(a)  To assist the Mayor’s Office and Member Development Manager and the Mayor’s P.A in any work associated with the Mayor’s charities including the transportation of refreshments, the purchasing of goods and other such tasks required to enable the Mayor’s charity work to be undertaken.
(b)  To assist the Mayor’s Office and Member Development Manager and the Mayor’s P.A. with any tasks associated with the organisation of the Mayor’s Christmas and spring Balls and the Mayor’s Civic Service.
(c)  To undertake such other duties as may be assigned by the Mayor’s Office and Member Development Manager or the Mayor’s P.A associated with the role.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Specify the qualifications, experience, skills and abilities required.
Experience and Qualifications:
1.  A clean, current driving licence and substantial driving experience.
Knowledge:
2.  Knowledge of relevant vehicle Health and Safety procedures.
3.  Knowledge of roads and routes in and around London
4.  Knowledge of behavioural protocol at formal events (Civic events desirable)
Skills and Abilities:
5.  Ability to be punctual and reliable.
6.  Sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to complete appropriate job-related forms, including online forms.
7.  Ability to conform to procedures and have good car maintenance disciplines and ability to perform daily/weekly checks on oil, water, tyres, washers and electrical equipment.
8.  Ability to undertake or assist other duties such as hoovering and cleaning of the Mayoral vehicle.
9.  Ability to read paper and electronic maps and plan driving routes effectively.
10.  Ability to plan routes to venues to avoid restricted access or road closures.
11.  Ability to identify appropriate parking locations for the vehicle within walking or driving distance from Mayoral engagements when required.
12.  Willingness to undergo training as requested.
13.  Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, sometimes at short notice.
