Checklist for university applications

to print out and keep so you know when things have to be done

(in column one: necessary for a=all applicants, b= only for United Kingdon, c= all others)

2a / Discuss your plans with your parents, if undecided about goals and plans, send a list of your free times to the advisor to organize a meeting / March of 1ère year
3c / Download, fill out and turn in paper copy of student dossier pages 1-2 with photocopies of all grades from 3ème through 2nd trimester of 1ère for outside UK / April of 1ère year
4b / Fill out and turn in student dossier, including page 3 if applying for UK only and NOT Oxford, Cambridge, medical, veterinary, or law school / April of 1ère year
5bc / Download, fill out and turn in the correct ELECTRONIC transcript through 1ère (2nd trimester) if applying to Oxford, Cambridge, medical, veterinary, or law in UK or other foreign destinations / April of 1ère year
6a / Download teacher reference form, fill in your part, distribute copies to ALL 1ère teachers. They must return it to the advisor by mid June. / April of 1ère year
7a / Meet with the advisor to discuss your plans if not already done / April-June of 1ère
8a / Hunt websites for universities/programs that interest you, and visit campuses to find out more, either via virtual visits or real trips there. Make a list of 5 UK programs you wish to apply to, not all in the top twenty. List places elsewhere too. / summer between 1ère and terminale
9a / Collect information about what each program requires: portfolio of artwork, copies of essays written, references from one or more teachers, answers to essay questions the university sets, a grade transcript, exam results, places worked and activities, filling in (or having advisors fill in) information on forms downloaded, filling in or uploading information onto a site (note the exact site address and access codes), taking academic tests (like SAT, SAT subject tests, AP tests, LNAT for Law in Britain, HAT for History at Oxford/Cambridge, BMAT or UKCAT or others for medicine in Britain, or language tests (TOEFL for US, IELTS for UK, if they don't accept exams passed like IGCSE or Cambridge) Addresses on website. / summer between 1ère and terminale
10a / Sign up officially for tests required before THEIR deadlines (NO exceptions)… You may have to travel far for some exams. Europole will NOT organize exams.) / summer between 1ère and Terminale

13a / Send 3rd trimester 1ère results and post 1ère bac results to the advisor, including TPE and specialization options chosen for Terminal / summer between 1ère and Terminale
14a / If you will need financial aid, check out scholarship programs and loan arrangements with the countries you intend to apply to. / summer between 1ère and Terminale
15b / Once the advisor sends the buzzword, UK applicants fill out the ucas.com apply form on line, using buzzword when it is asked for. If choices include Oxford or Cambridge (can't apply to both), medicine, or veterinary medicine, the deadline is: / sent to advisor by September 15th and Ucas by October 15th
16b / Once the advisor sends buzzword, OTHER UK applicants fill out the ucas.com apply form on line, using buzzword when it is asked for and send application at least 2 weeks before advisor deadline (UCAS deadline later, but the advisor deadline is inflexible) / sent to advisor by November 15th who must send it to UCAS by December 15th
17c / For all Northern hemisphere unis, applications must be finished, internet addresses furnished and, where necessary, large paper envelopes addressed to each university and stamped to carry eight pages by airmail must be supplied to the advisor by this deadline: / sent to advisor by November 15th who must then send it by December 15th.
18c / For Australia and New Zealand, see the advisor for deadlines. / by March 31st of Term

22c / Accept UK firm and insurance offers, refuse others. If no offers wait for Extra in May and Clearing in July to apply for remaining positions. Also confirm acceptance and refusal of offers elsewhere. / One month maximum after you have all offers.
23c / Third trimester Terminal results must be entered on the Terminal page of transcripts and sent electronically with a grade report to the advisor with envelopes or internet addresses and codes as in number 17 above by: / June 30th of Terminal
24a / Confirm acceptance. Bac results must be sent. Often they require the original, but as National Education doesn't make copies, try to get them to accept a certified copy, by sending a copy and the original to the advisor who can certify it. Otherwise, make a good color copy before sending the original and clearly DEMAND that they send you back the original. / July 15th of Terminal
25a / Inform advisor of where you are going to study and what. / July 15th of Terminal
