Cold War Interview Project

Regents

Due Thursday February 23rdand Friday February 24th 2012

Directions: Create ten interview questions regarding the Cold War that include your macro themes from global history. (Political, Social, Cultural and Economic)

Thenchoose one person who has lived through the Cold War that will be able to answer your questions and interview them IN PERSON!

Make sure your questions are open-ended questions. This will help drive the direction of the interview and help with perspective.

Sample questions:

  • What if any,were your fears regarding the Soviet Union and a nuclear war?
  • What Presidents stand out to you during the Cold War and why?
  • Are there any types of songs/music that remindsyou of the Cold War? Why this song/music?
  • Where were you when the Berlin wall fell and what did you think would happen next?
  • What were some of your beliefs regarding the Soviet Union?
  • What were you taught in High School regarding the Soviet Union and was it accurate? Was it Bias?
  • What are your thoughts on the war in both Vietnam and/or Korea?

Feel free to take the interview in any direction.Just make sure it stays within the context of the Cold war.

You may also want to interview two people from opposite perspectives. If you decide to do this I will add an additional 10 points on your project’s final grade.

Rubric and directions for presentation & paper.

Paper & Interview

  1. Each interview must have at least 10 questions.
  2. All questions and answers must be typed out. You may abbreviate the answers and thenelaborate in the summary.
  3. In addition to the questions & answers you must have a summary of the interview which will include the following:
  • What surprised you about the interview?
  • What period within the cold war did the person talk about?
  • What if anything made you think/ or question some of your ideas regarding the Cold War?
  • What did you learn?
  • Did anything make you mad/angry?
  • Did you want to do any additional research? If so on what & Why?
  • Did anybody influence your own point of view?
  • Would you have wanted to live through this time period?
  • Did the person have a specific opinion about certain events? If so, try and elaborate.
  • The questions and answers should be about one page typed unless they are elaborate.
  • The summary portion should be about one and half to two pages typed. The entire paper should not be more then 3 pages typed.

Presentation

  • Your presentation will be no longer then five minutes.
  • You may do one of the following: Create a Power Point, Create a poster board or create some other mutli –media format. If you have other ideas please come and see me. I’m open to suggestions.
  • You must articulate about your interview but don’t just read the questions & answers. In manycases you will see a common theme in your interview and be able to use it as a foundation for your presentation.
  • If you do the paper and not the presentation you will lose 30 points.

Grading Rubric

  • Papers are worth 40 points.
  • Presentation is worth 30 points.
  • Interview is worth 30 points- however- you will not be allowed to hand in a paper or present without an interview.
  • In order to receive all of the above points you must follow the rubric above. If one section or component is left out then points will be deducted.
  • Additionally, NO PAPERS OR PRESENTATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DUE DATE. YOU WILL AUTOMATCALLY GET A ZERO. REMEMBER- THIS IS WORTH A TEST GRADE.
