How well do you know the characters of your story? These character development questions will help you gain a deeper understanding of your characters.
Character Name/Nickname: How does the character feel about his or her name? What connotations or stereotypes does the name have?
Character Age/Birthday/Zodiac Sign: How old is your character? What year was he or she born? Does his or her zodiac sign have any bearing on their personality traits?
Character's Home: Where does your character live? How does your character feel about the current living arrangements?
Career/Job/Profession: What does the character do for a living? Is it enjoyable? What is your character's dream job? What is your character's financial situation? What is your character's level of education?
Character's Physical Traits: Athletic? Overweight? Hair color? Eye color? Any scars or birth marks? What actress or actor would you have play the role of your character if it was a movie?
What style of clothes does your character wear? Think about what your character wears everyday, when he or she dresses up for a night out, what he or she wears to bed, and if there is any jewelry your character wears.
Characters Family: Parents? Siblings? Children Aunts? Uncles? Second Cousins Twice Removed?
Character's Friends: Who are your character's closest friends? What do they value in friendship?
Character's Pets: Does your character have any pets? What is his or her favorite animal?
Character's Past: What events from your character's life have left an impact? What are some of his or her most proudest or embarrassing moments? What was his or her childhood like?
What motivates your character? What are some of his or her goals for the story?
What are you characters favorite movies, songs, and books?
What is your character's favorite food? Does he or she enjoy to cook?
Is your character an introvert or extrovert? How does he or she act socially?
What makes your character happy? What is your character most thankful for in life?
What are your character's greatest fears? How does your character act when afraid?
Describe your character's personality with three words.
