The following video links show how to connect Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 to MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008.

The above guide provided valuable assistance when connecting Macromedia Dreamweaver MX to MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008.

10. Macromedia Dreamweaver MX

Running Macromedia Dreamweaver from start>program

a.  Click on File New

b.  Click Dynamic Page

c.  Click on ASP.NET VB (the VB is Visual Basic option) and then click create button.

d.  Expand the Application and the File Windows on the right hand side of the window

e.  In the Application Windows click site on the 1. Create a site for this file

f.  The site definition window. Click on the advance tag

The Local Info needs to have a site name … the example shows the site name as sql2005 / 2008dreamweaver.

The local Root Folder is where the site is to reside. This is the area setup by .NET Framework or IIS. Click the folder and select c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\sql2005 / 2008dreamweaver

Optional - You may also define where the images are to be located or stored.

c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\sql2005 / 2008dreamweaver\images

The HTTP Address default for testing on the local machine is http://localhost/[site name] which in our example will be http://localhost/sql2005 / 2008dreamweaver

g.  Click the Testing Server option on the right panel

The Server Model is the web technology used to define the web pages … note the options available before selecting ASP.NET VB

Set the Access to local/network to indicate the testing to be on the local machine. Note the FTP option available to test remotely.

Note the Testing Server Folder automatically goes to the area we store our sites. Again the URL prefix is added by default and you need to add the site name sql2005 / 2008dreamweaver.

http://localhost/sql2005 / 2008dreamweaver

Click on the OK button to then create both the local and testing server.

h.  Note the site is created under the applications window and that default web files are added to the files window.

Note you should have 3 ticks to indicate the correct parameters have been entered to create the site. Also note you know have the Database option etc available.

i.  We are now ready to connect to a database.

j.  Click on the + button on the database tab and choose OLE DB connection.

k.  Click the build button …

l.  We can now enter the OLE DB connection parameters for MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008.

m.  The OLE DB connection parameters for MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008.

The 'Data Link Properties' Dialogue should be displayed. Provide the following information depending on if you are in the UoT lab or at home

UoT Labs Specify
Server Name scm-database.tees.ac.uk
Authentication SQL Server Authentication
Login name user number (your TUSC no).
Password password provided by tutor
Home Specify
Server Name [your computer name] eg DELL
Right click My Computer – Properties to find name
Authentication SQL Server Authentication
Login name sa
Password password you set up on installation /

Note you can click on to see all the databases on the server.

Or actually attach to a independent SQL database (useful option when working with sample case study databases.

Also consider clicking Test Connection to make sure it works

n.  Note the OLE DB connection parameters for MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008 has now been set. This string will prefix all web pages to allow connectivity to data held in the sql database AdventureWorks.

o.  Note the MS SQL Server Database – AdventureWorks is now available

p.  Drag and drop the Person.contact table to the Untitled Document file opened.

q.  Note the dataset link created.

r.  Click the Test button

s.  Click the okay button and click okay again for the following screen. Click okay on this screen

t.  You now need to bind the required data to the page. Drag and drop the fields you require.

u.  You now need to bind the required data to the page. Drag and drop the fields from the Binding Tag - ContactID FirstName LastName EmailAddress.

v.  Click the for the live data preview or click the for a IE preview

Yes it only shows the 1st record of Person.Contact fields - ContactID FirstName LastName EmailAddress.

Remember the module is concerned with building SQL Server 2005 / 2008 databases.
