CHAIRPERSON EVALUATION
OF PART-TIME FACULTY PERFORMANCE

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHAIRPERSON

  1. Program Coordinators and Directors may provide input for the part-time faculty evaluation, but only Chairpersons may sign off on the evaluation.
  1. Evaluate part-time faculty members in their first year of service and then once every three years following the schedule of last name A-I; J-R and S-Z as instructed by Human Resources.
  1. Request that the scheduled part-time faculty members complete Parts I and II of the Part-time Faculty Performance Evaluation form.
  1. Complete Part III of the evaluation form. This can include information from a variety of sources, including but not limited to teaching observations and student evaluations.
  2. Part IIIof the evaluation form requests that you describe and document strengths or weaknesses of the faculty member to justify your selection of “exceeds”, “meets” and “does not meet” in the summary evaluation. If you wish to include more data than will fit in the summary, please include this data as a separate document and inset this sheet behind the appropriate page once you have printed the form. Be sure to note "See Attached" at the bottom of the page for which you are inserting additional pages.
  3. When you have completed Part III, print the pages. (Keep in mind that, depending upon the version of Adobe Acrobat you have, you may not be able to "save" your data.)
  4. Sign your name and record the date at the end of Part III.
  5. Combine Part III with Parts I and II completed by the faculty member and return the document to the faculty member for their review.
  6. The faculty member will then complete Part IV (optional comments), sign, and return the evaluation to you within five (5) University working days.
  7. Collect all evaluations forms from your part-time faculty members and sign your name on Part V to clarify that you have read any optional comments and verify that the faculty member has signed the evaluation form in all of the required areas.
  1. Please consult with your Dean regarding their policy to review part-time faculty evaluations.
  1. Please keep a copy of the evaluation form for your departmental files and return a copy (electronically or printed) to the part-time faculty member BY MAY 30TH FOR SPRING TERM OR DECEMBER 15TH FOR FALL TERM.
  1. Mark the date each part-time faculty member was evaluated during the Fall or Spring term on the “Part-time Faculty Evaluation Documentation Form” and send a copy of the completed form to the Associate Provost, Academic AdministrationNO LATER THAN MAY 30TH.
