JOB TITLE: Apprentice – Nursery Assistant

LOCATION: Clapham or Brixton Nursery

RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Nursery Manager

SALARY: £10,323.72

OUTLINE OF POST

To be trained in the role of Nursery assistant in the College nurseries, contributing to high standards of physical, emotional and social wellbeing for children aged two to four years. Working as part of an established nursery team within a FE college environment.

Areas of Responsibilities

1.  Once you have been trained in the EYFS, to act as Key person and to observe, assess and record the individual needs of the children in your care.

2.  Be flexible to work within working practices of nursery. Be prepared to help where required e.g. meals, snacks, nappy changing routine.

3.  To keep a safe and healthy Nursery, including daily cleaning and tidying of Nursery, laundering of towels and maintenance of play equipment indoors and outdoors.

4.  To contribute to the planning, preparation, evaluation of daily activities, with your Supervisor and team members.

5.  To develop good knowledge of child development and keep up-to-date with the latest childcare policies and practices; through training and development in addition to the apprenticeship programme.

6.  To actively contribute to room/staff meetings for discussion, planning and development of good practice.

7.  To be alert to the dietary needs of children with reference to individual needs, including medical, cultural and religious requirements.

8.  To develop and maintain good relationships with the parents/guardians who participate in the running of the Nursery.

9.  To report all suspected non-accidental injuries, suspicions of child abuse, accidents and near accidents to the Nursery Supervisor/Manager.

Administration

10.  To ensure that all supplies are used with due economy.

11.  To assist colleagues with observation, assessment, planning, evaluation and report writing until competent/trained.

General

12.  To deliver high quality customer service at all times.

13.  To cover for staff absences during periods of short term absence often at short notice.

14.  To undertake nursery admin/enrolment duties as required.

15.  To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children as they apply to the role within the College.

16.  To promote the College’s Career Ready standards.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT (CPD)

17.  To attend all in-house apprentice training.

18.  To be involved in College staff CPD activities and participate in PDR procedures within the Service. Complete CPD evaluations.

19.  To act as an ambassador for the nursery and maintain a positive image of its aims and objectives.

20.  To understand that as part of your training you will be required to move to all age ranges.

21.  To adhere to the College’s Single Equality Scheme with respect to staff

and students.

22.  To comply with and implement the College’s/Nurseries Health and Safety policy.

23.  To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.
