The 1st stage examination of the National Informatics Olympiad – 2008 will be held on Saturday, the 17th November, 2008 between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm.

The list of centres is put up on the CBSE Website: www.cbse.nic.in as well as on the Olympiad website: www.iarcs.org.in. Please select the nearest centre of examination from the list and forward the list of candidates desirous of participating in the first stage examination to the coordinator-cum-Centre Superintendent at the chosen examination centre along with the examination fee as per the enclosed proforma on or before October 31, 2007. The fee for each participant will be Rs.60/- (Rupees sixty only). A consolidated demand draft for all the participants of your school may be drawn in favour of Secretary, CBSE, Delhi. Students in Delhi schools can similarly select one of the five centres in Delhi and forward the list of candidates and demand draft to the coordinator-cum Centre Superintendent.

Subject: National Informatics Olympiad - First Stage Examination, 2007

The Central Board of Secondary Education will be conducting the National Informatics Olympiad in collaboration with the Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS), Mumbai across the country and abroad. The examination will be held in two stages. The examination will be open to all the students of classes VIII to XII studying in schools affiliated to CBSE as well as other Boards in the country.

The first stage examination, the Zonal Informatics Olympiad, will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm.

STAGE 1:

The examination will be a written examination to test the aptitude of the students, their logical competence, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking.

STAGE 2:

The candidates who qualify in the first stage examination as per the norms prescribed by the selection committee will appear in the second stage examinations to be held on January 20, 2007, which will be based on programming skills.

Selected candidates will be called for intensive training for the final selection of the candidates for the International Olympiad.

The Board is planning to conduct the examinations in about 40 centres across the country and abroad. Each of these centres will have a coordinator cum Centre Superintendent who will be responsible for the conduct of the examinations. When the candidates go to the examination centre to write the examination, they should carry with them a bonafide certificate with their photograph attested by the principal of their school. Since no Roll Number will be allotted to candidates, they have to write their name, class, school's name with address and centre name in the answer sheet and information sheet provided to them in the examination. Please note that CBSE will not reimburse expenses incurred by the school on travel, accommodation etc. of the students to participate in the First Stage of the Olympiad.

Functions of the Coordinator

1. The coordinator will receive the application forms duly forwarded by

the Heads of Institutions in that area along with the Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Secretary, CBSE.

2.  The coordinator will prepare a list of the schools registered, the details of the fee remitted by the participating schools and the list of candidates. The consolidated list along with the Demand Drafts may be forwarded to Shri P. Mani, Education Officer (H&L), CBSE, “Shiksha Kendra”, 2, Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi – 110 301 on or before 31st

October, 2007.

3. No admit card or roll number will be issued. Instead, the candidates have been

instructed to produce a bonafide certificate with attested photograph at

the time of ppearing in the examination.

4. Candidates will write their name, class, name of the school with address and centre name in the answer sheet and information sheet provided.

5.  The coordinator will receive the question papers cum answer sheets from the

Board, keep the same in safe custody and administer the examinations on

the scheduled date and time. The sealed packet should be opened at 9.30 a.m. on 17th November, 2007 in front of two nvigilators whose signatures should be obtained on the cover of the packet. The question paper contains an

information sheet which has to be filled by the candidates as per the

instructions contained therein.

6. The Coordinators will organize to issue blank answer sheets of paper to the candidates during the examination for rough work. The cost of the paper will be reimbursed by the Board.

7. The Answer books containing the question paper and information sheet along with rough work sheets may be packed, sealed and sent by registered insured post to the following address as soon as the examination is over:

8.  The coordinator will appoint invigilators on the date of the examinations as per

the Board’s norms.

9.  As no advance towards examination expenses is being sent, the Board will reimburse the expenditure incurred as per norms. The Co-ordinators cum Centre Superintendents may kindly send the accounts with receipts and vouchers to the following address for reimbursement:
