CEN TC 230 “Water Analysis: Remarks to the list of priority substances in the field of water policy (draft)

General remarks: The European standards listed in the table are all validated for water according to the needs of the directive 76/464/EEC and its Daughter Directives. In general, the methods may be applied to the analysis of sediments without change of the procedure. However, the pretreatment step needs to be elaborated or in some cases adjusted to the distinct need. None of the standards has been validated for investigations of biota including fish. More detailed information are given under the respective number.

Whenever national interlaboratory trial values are cited, it is not settled yet whether these will be accepted by the member bodies. A repetition of each of the tests will cause - as a rule - a delay by about one year.

For sediment Dutch standard NEN 5771 available (and NVN 5731 for soil).
A German national standard for sludge (DIN 38414-23, in print) has been finalized (including interlab trial data) which may be applied to sediment as well. Once being included in the work programme of CEN/TC 230 and accepted in general, an EN should be available within 4 years.
