About the team

The Business Development Assistant will be part of the Business Development team, working closely with the Business Development Coordinator and Chief Executive to work on areas of potential growth.

You will be managed by the Business Development Coordinator and seek support and advice from him/her.

About the role

You will be responsible for finding new leads and making initial contact, driving them through the sales pipeline and passing opportunities to the Business Development Coordinator.

As the Business Development Assistant you will achieve this through researching organisations and relevant departments/contacts or appropriate events/advertising opportunities.

Approaches would be made through direct mail, networking events, advertising, mail-outs or calls.

The goal will be to:

•link leads/potential clients with colleagues for further meetings, events, talks or site visits - resulting in new business for Dot Dot Dot.

•build alliances with organisations who can be ambassadors for Dot Dot Dot and share what we do with their networks.

•increase awareness of Dot Dot Dot within various sectors of the industry we work in.

You will achieve this through “campaigns”/projects that you will carry through from start to finish, under the guidance and supervision of the Business Development Coordinator. Each project will address a specific region, organisation type or approach.

The Business Development Coordinator will develop strategies and project plans for you to implement and report on progress. You will be given communications and messaging around Dot Dot Dot’s work that are relevant to each business, organization and individual identified, and be able to apply these appropriately. Finally, you will contribute to the review of each campaign.

You will be responsible for recording activity on the business’s CRM system and reporting outcomes to the Business Development Coordinator. It is essential records are kept up to date so information is accurate and lessons can be learnt moving forward.

You will need to quickly grasp Dot Dot Dot’s model and previous experience to be confident in sharing this with both cold and warm leads. You will be able to anticipate questions/concerns and have answers/reassurances about guardianship and Dot Dot Dot. You will be supported by the Business Development Coordinator to do so.

As a Dot Dot Dot representative, you will share our vision and passion to create good quality housing, support volunteering and build communities. You will be able to convey this passion to people outside the organisation, explaining the benefits of social procurement.

About the person

The New Business Assistant must be able to:

•communicate clearly and confidently with external contacts, including senior employees and decision makers from a range of organisations (charities, housing associations, property developers, local authorities)

•take initiative to spot and act upon new links and areas of work

•have the resilience and perseverance to make contact and follow up with leads, finding solutions to obstacles

•keep a wider awareness of the current narrative of the housing sector including regeneration, development and funding,as well as press reactions and public opinion to guardianship

•Experience working in an office environment

•Experience of dealing with external stakeholders

•Ability to conduct targeted research

Desirable criteria:

•Experience of working in a sales or business development capacity

•Experience making sales calls
