"Cause for Applause!" Award Recipients

March 2014

Rob Shadlehas been such a supportive and caring bus driver. He is always looking after the students. He is always here with a smile on his face. He wanted to buy one of our school spirit sweat shirts for Christmas for a student that is less fortunate and couldn’t afford one. He did not want anyone to know he did it. You can tell he loves the kids and wants to make a difference. I love seeing him every day, always with a small and nice things to say.

Five of us parents at Chinook Middle School have come together to nominateKirsten Raefor the Cause for Applause Award for Exceptional Customer Service! Kirsten Rae is an exceptional Principal and has set the tone for the middle school. She welcomes parents/guardians during orientations and says she wants everyone MORE involved, not less. Kirsten Rae absolutely walks her talk! It begins with her enthusiastic, welcoming nature. When you walk into Chinook, Kirsten Rae’s face lights up and you feel like you are the most important thing in her life at that moment. She, along with her staff, always expresses gratitude for our time and commitment to Chinook. She is always willing to listen to concerns or suggestions, and give reasonable consideration to these. She truly has an open door policy! Kirsten Rae attends our monthly parent meetings and contributes her thoughts into what we are trying to achieve as a parent group at the school. She often solicits parent input for programs or changes being considered for the well-being of the students. To maintain open lines of communication, Kirsten uses the “Warrior Word” newsletter and holds “Conversations with the Principal” forums. This shows her commitment to involve parents in the climate of the school. Parents feel like their opinions matter and they can make a difference at Chinook! She invites parents to participate in school trainings, volunteer opportunities, lunch supervision, office help and fluency testing. Kirsten Rae’s desire to embrace the parents/guardians who are willing to support Chinook has brought great advantages to the school. School culture and spirit, staff support, and fundraising have all been positive recipients ofKirsten Rae’sability to communicate with members of the Chinook Middle School community.
