CAULDON CEMENT WORKSCOMES TO THE RESCUE WITH LIFEGUARD T-SHIRTS

Swimmers at Waterhouses Community Swimming Pool can now be reassured that they can easily find a lifeguard when they need one, thanks to a donation by Cauldon Cement Works, owned by Lafarge Tarmac.

The company was approached to provide the swimming pool, which will shortly be celebrating its 50th anniversary, with funding for a set of lifeguard t-shirts, which they desperately needed.

The bright red t-shirts are emblazoned with the word ‘lifeguard’ on the back in yellow, making them easily visible,withLafarge Tarmac’s logo on the front.

Martin Bains, Lafarge Tarmac’s operations manager at Cauldon Cement Works, said: “Waterhouses Community Swimming Pool plays an important part in our community and we are delighted to have been able to help. We’d like to congratulate the pool on its 50th anniversary and wehope to see its facilities enjoyed by local people for years to come.”

The is the second time Cauldon Cement Works has come to the aid of local lifeguards, withthe companyproviding Waterhouses Community Swimming Pool with similar t-shirts in the past.

Emma Grindley, secretary at Waterhouses Community Swimming Pool, said: “We are very grateful to Cauldon Cement Works for their donation of t-shirts to our lifeguards. It is a struggle to finance the swimming pool independently and the support we have received from Cauldon Cement Works have really helped. It’s great to have the backing of local businesses.”

Cauldon Cement Works, formerly Blue Circle Cement,has been owned by Lafarge since 2001 and merged with Tarmac in 2013 to become Lafarge Tarmac Ltd. The company produces approximately 1mtonnesof cement per annum of which approximately 25 per cent is dispatched in 25 kg bags. The plant employs around 150 staff at its Cauldon plant.

Waterhouses Community Swimming Pool is part of Waterhouses School, and is open to the public for various sessions including lane swimming, family swimming and children / baby swimming lessons. The pool was originally built as an open top pool, and was later covered with a roof.
