VACANCY FOR A CLASS TEACHER

September 2013

Stella Maris is a Catholic Voluntary Aided primary school serving the two parishes of Our Lady,Help of Christians, in Folkestone (the parish in which the school is located) and St Joseph’s,Cheriton. Our intake is genuinely ‘comprehensive’, with pupils representing the full range of socialbackground and prior attainment. Currently, about 70% of the children are baptised Catholics. The school contains 7 classes, one for each year group, and the admissions limit is 30, though Key Stage 2 classes sometimes exceed this by one or two children. The school buildings are in a good state of repair is lucky enough to be set in beautiful surroundings, with its own playing fields, adventure playground and ‘picnic area’, in spite of beingclose to Folkestone town centre.

Further information about the school is available on our website:

Currently, there is a vacancy for a full-time Class Teacher in Year 1, but the successful candidate would need to be able to work in other year groups through the school insubsequent years, should the need arise.

The successful candidate will be a good ‘team player’. The school takes considerable pride in itsfamily atmosphere and the Governors are keen to preserve this as part of our Christian ethos. Weare also looking for an enthusiastic, energetic teacher, with good skills in managing learning, highexpectations and a clear commitment to the children.

The post is open to NQTs or more experienced teachers, but whoever is appointed should be reflective about their practice and willing to join us in learning more each day about this fascinatingand challenging profession.

We have a clear and accurate picture of where we are on our school improvement journey and have successfully introduced a range of exciting initiatives to support learning and pupil progress, including TASC (Thinking Actively in a Social Context), The Power of Reading (from CLPE) andSupportive Behaviour Management.

We value pupil voice and, as well as an active School Council, we regularly consult with pupils on all aspects of school improvement.

We have a strong inclusive ethos, which means that we have a rich mix of children from all kinds of background and with a wide range of individual needs. Our Inclusion Coordinatorworks with a team of hard-working Teaching Assistants to provide teachers withadditional support.

We work closely with other local schools to support school improvement and staff development.

Curriculum enrichment is important to us – PPA time is provided in part through the work of sports coaches, our school choir takes part in the Young Voices event at the O2 in London, and wecelebrate diversity through our Multicultural Week in thesummer.

Above all, we are looking for dedicated practitioners who can help us to continue providing the best possible standard of education in a warm, loving environment.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate evidence of their commitment to the values that underpin our strong Christian ethos. A cheerful outlook; a lively, committed approach to her/his work; andan ability to develop effective, professional relationships with children, parents and other staff willalso be much valued.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 24th March 2013.

Stella Maris is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and youngpeople and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
