CASE OF BLIND MURDER SOLVED WITHIN 48 HOURS – ONE ARRESTED

With the arrest of Manoj, aged 28 years s/o Hari Singh r/o 9340. Katra Ganga Bishan, Gali Ghore Wali, Kishan Ganj, Delhi, Central District police has solved a case of murder that took place in the area of PS DBG Road on the night intervening 5/6.01.09. The weapon of offence used in the commission of offence has been recovered.

INCIDENT

On 06.01.09, a call was received at PS DBG Road regarding a man lying in pool of blood at Gaushala Road. On receipt of the same, the police team rushed to the spot and learnt that the injured had been shifted to Lady Harding Hospital. However, a pool of blood was detected at the spot by the team. On reaching the hospital, MLC of the injured namely Sh. Ajay, aged 26 years s/o Sh. Kishori Lal r/o Katra Ganga Bishan, Gali Ghore Wali, Kishan Ganj, Delhi was received wherein he was declared ‘Brought Dead’ by the doctor. The brother of the deceased namely Vijay kumar was present in the hospital who stated that he was informed by one of his neigbourers that his brother Ajay was lying in an injured state at Gaushala Road and he immediately rushed to the place and found his brother in a pool of blood with injuries over his head and rushed him to Lady Harding Hospital where he was declared ‘Brought Dead’. Based on the spot inspection, opinion on MLC and the inspection of dead body, a case of murder was registered at PS DBG Road and the investigations were launched.

TEAM

A team consisting of Inspr. Sanjeev Kumar SHO/DBG Road, Inspr. Sandeep Gupta, ATO/DBG Road, SI Rakesh Kumar, HC Nanu Ram, Ct Mukesh, Ct Ashish and Ct. Tejpal was constituted under the supervision of Shri Pushpender Kumar, ACP/Pahar Ganj, Central District, Delhi.

INVESTIGATION

It was a blind murder case and there was no clue about the motive of the crime as well as the accused involved. During investigation, it surfaced that the deceased used to work in a screen printing factory as a labourer. Further, it was learnt that on 05.01.09, after returning from work, the deceased had again left home at about 7 pm and thereafter there was information about him till next day morning. In order to establish this missing link, several sources were deployed, local intelligence was gathered and all those in touch with the deceased were questioned at length. After a painstaking exercise, on the evening of 06.01.09, it was revealed that the deceased was last seen with one Manoj who is a tailor by profession and is resident of the same locality. A raid was immediately conducted at his house that was found locked which again raised suspicion. Efforts were made to trace him and finally on 07.01.09, he was apprehended from his hideout at Filmistan on a secret information.

During sustained interrogation, he disclosed that the deceased was known to him since they were living in the same locality. Further, he disclosed that whenever they used to interact with each other, the deceased used to pass derogatory remarks against him which used to cause a lot infuriation to him. On the night of 05.01.09, while the accused alongwith his friends Pappan and Dev were having a drinking session at Gaushala Road, Ajay (deceased) came from Kishan Ganj Railway Station side and as usual teased Manoj by passing derogatory remarks against him and he felt insulted. He immediately took a stick and repeatedly hit the deceased over his head and fled away from the spot. At his instance, the weapon of offence (stick) had also been recovered.

Further investigation is in progress.

PROFILE

Manoj s/o Hari Singh r/o 9340. Katra Ganga Bishan, Gali Ghore Wali, Kishan Ganj, Delhi is 28 years old. He is 8th pass and a tailor by profession. The verification of his records revealed that earlier also he was involved in a case of hurt of PS DBG Road of the year 2005 which is pending trial in the court at Tis Hazari.

M. V. THEFT CASES OF DELHI, HARYANA, RAJASTHAN AND UP SOLVED.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted two major gangs of autolifters who were active in stealing four-wheelers from Delhi and its neighbouring States. 32 stolen vehicles and tools used for auto theft including portable drill machines, duplicate keys etc. have been recovered.

OPERATION I

In the first operation, the Special Operation Squad of Crime Branch had observed that their was a spurt in the number of vehicles being stolen from the vicinity of Sports Complexes in Dwarka and Paschim Vihar areas of Delhi. HC Raja Ram was deployed to collect information about gangs who could be active in these areas. He received information that one Ravi, a known autolifter could be responsible for this increase in vehicle theft. A team comprising of SIs Virender Singh, Devender Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Rajiv Kakkar, Jai Kishan, HCs Jasvinder Singh, Rajbir Singh, Mahabir Singh, Bachchu Singh, Naresh and Consts. Sushil, Ajit, Virender, Manoj, Ajay led by Inspr. Ved Prakash under the overall supervision of Sh. Udaiveer Rathi, ACP/SOS was formed to work on this case. On 2.1.2009, Ravi was apprehended in a trap laid near Sports Complex, Dwarka. On the basis of his interrogation, three more persons were arrested. Their details are as below:-

  1. Ravi @ Mahesh s/o Mahinder Singh r/o B-278, Vikas Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Delhi. Age 25 years.

He was arrested in a murder case in 1998 and was also arrested for theft of car and scooter in 2002 but was acquitted later on.

  1. Manish @ Monu s/o Subhash Rao r/o 542, Janta Flat, Hastsal, Uttam Nagar, Delhi. Age 27 years.

He is an auto rickshaw driver.

  1. Rakesh Kumar @ Raman s/o Sh. Rajinder Kumar r/o C-11/51, Sector 5, Rohini, Delhi. Age 34 years.

He used to sell spectacles at Connaught Place. He came in contact with Ravi and started selling stolen vehicles to one Ravinder of Baghpat, UP.

  1. Anil Kumar s/o Nepal Singh r/o 12/A-4, Ganga Vihar, Gurgaon, Haryana. Age 29 years.

He is a motor mechanic and was running a garage at Gurgaon. He used to sell stolen vehicles to one Mateen at Kabari Bazaar, Meerut, UP.

MODUS OPERANDI

Accused Manish is co-brother of Ravi. They would operate as a pair while stealing cars. They would hang around Sports Complexes and keep a watch on persons visiting the swimming pool. As soon as the victim would enter the pool, they would break into the car and steal it. Their second area of operation was near public parks. They would position themselves near the parking area and wait for people coming in self-driven expensive vehicles. Then Manish would follow the victim into the park and Ravi would break into the car. In case the car owner turned towards the parking, Manish would alert Ravi on his mobile phone.

OPERATION II

In the second operation, SI Braham Dev of Anti Extortion Cell had received information about an Inter-State gang of autolifters active in Delhi and neighbouring States. A Crime Branch team of SIs Arun Dev Nehra, Braham Dev, ASIs Rajbir Singh, Wasi Haider, HCs Sukhbir Singh, Santraj, Sanjay, Yashpal, Surender Singh and Consts. Rajeev Sahrawat, Sandeep Kumar and Pyaerlal led by Inspr. Dalbir Singh under the overall supervision of Sh. Jasvir Malik, ACP/AEC was formed to work on the case. After sustained efforts, two persons were arrested near Sangam Cinema and a Hyundai Verna car which was found stolen vide FIR No. 283/08 u/s 379 IPC PS Mehrauli was recovered. During interrogation, they revealed that they were part of a large gang which steals cars from Delhi and Rajasthan. A complete set of forged documents is prepared for each vehicle and thereafter, the vehicle is sold in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan etc.

The details of arrested persons are as follows:-

  1. Surender Singh (35 years) s/o Late Shri Ram Kishan r/o Village Kharkara, Meham, Rohtak, Haryana.
  1. Surender Kumar @ Sandeep (25 years) s/o Late Shri Banwari Lal r/o Village Sisana, Kharkhoda, Sonepat, Haryana.

He is a student of Mechanical Engineering in Sir Chhotu Ram College of Engineering at Rohtak, Haryana.

The above two persons had met in a Beer Bar in Rohtak and thereafter, they became partners in crime.

11 stolen cars have been recovered and the following 7 cases have been solved so far. Many of the recovered cars bear fake registration numbers of Delhi, UP and Rajasthan.

Four Mumbai based kidnappers apprehended.

Two brothers kidnapped from Delhi and Mumbai simultaneously.

Ransom demanded was Rs. 25 Lakh.

The Interstate Cell, Crime Branch Chanakya Puri Delhi has nabbed four Mumbai based kidnappers who abducted two brothers from Delhi and Mumbai simultaneously and demanded Rs. 25 lakh as ransom amount.

The arrested persons are:-

  1. Vishal Mahesh Kapoor @ Yusuf Pathan s/o Mahesh Anand Kapoor r/o B-1001, Preatmesh Residency, Andheri West, Mumbai, Age-41 Years. He is the gang leader and a B. Com graduate from American Sharjah University, Dubai. At present he is in the manpower business in Mumbai.
  1. Adil Nawaj Khan @ Sharma s/o Akbar Nawaj Khan r/o 3/C-402 Patli Putra Nagar, Mahada, New Link Road, Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, Age- 26 Years. He is associated with the film production business.
  1. Kasif Khan @ Gaikwad s/o Hasrat Khan r/o 10 A/ 301, Pataliputra Nagar, Oshiwara, Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, Age-21 Years. He has a distributorship for DTH TV connections.
  1. Rohit Singh @ Rahil s/o Anand Singh r/o 11 A-105, Pataliputra Nagar, Oshiwara, Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, Age- 19 Years. He has been participating in boxing competitions in Mumbai.

Complainant Sh. Rakesh Kathuria R/O G-5/359, Sect.-16, Rohini, Delhi reported that he is a fashion choreographer, film actor and also organizes fashion programmes with different actors in various parts of the country. On 12.05.08 when he was in Mumbai, for the opening ceremony of the Hindi movie “The Man” he was contacted by one Yusuf Pathan from Delhi for selecting models for a fashion show. Since he was in Mumbai Yusuf Pathan asked him to send his younger brother Manish Kathuria for discussions at PVR Plaza parking Connaught Place, New Delhi. Yusuf Pathan also insisted that Rakesh should meet his representative Gaurav Srivastava at the Inorbit Mall, Mallad, Mumbai to discuss the profile of the show. As per plan, 4 gang members kidnapped Rakesh Kathuria in Mumbai, blind folded him and took him to a flat at Sheppard Tower, Goregaon, Mumbai. Meanwhile, the younger brother Manish Kathuria reached Connaught Place to meet Yusuf Pathan. However, he too was forcibly kidnapped in his car and made to speak to the elder brother in captivity. The kidnappers demanded rupees 25 lakh for their release. The kidnappers also tortured both brothers. While the elder brother was kept hostage in Mumbai, the younger brother was released in Delhi after midnight to arrange the ransom amount after ensuring that he is so terrified about the safety of his elder brother that he will not seek police help. Although the initial demand was for Rs. 25 lakh, the abductors could get only Rs 6.5 lakh, some gold jewellery, laptop and mobile phones of complainant. Finally, the Kathuria brothers were released but not before the accused persons had also withdrawn money using the victims’ ATM Cards in Delhi and Mumbai and also threatened Rakesh Kathuria to leave Mumbai. After release, Rakesh Kathuria was so terrified that he left Mumbai within a few hours and flew back to Delhi. He only reported the matter to the Crime Branch after being encouraged by some friends.

A team lead by Insp. Ashok Sharma consisting SI Ram Avtar, SI Manjeet Tomar, ASI Mohinder Singh, HC Subodh Kumar, HC Sat Pal HC Rajinder, HC Suresh, Ct. Rajesh, Ct. Rishi Pal, Ct. Sanjay under the supervision of Shri Rajender Bakshi, ACP/ISC was formed to look into the complaint.

During investigation it was revealed that all the accused persons had used bogus identities and had also impersonated as Crime Branch officials in Delhi and as ATS officials in Mumbai. After sustained efforts, their movements were finally tracked. Accused Adil Nawaz Khan was the first to be identified. He had impersonated as Sharma with Yusuf Pathan in Delhi. On 19-12-08 Adil Nawaz Khan was arrested who confessed his involvement in the kidnapping of Manish in Delhi. On sustained interrogation he revealed that Yusuf Pathan @ Vishal Kapoor is their gang leader who along with other associates hatched this conspiracy to kidnap Manish Kathuria in Delhi and, as per the directions of Vishal Kapoor, Gaurav Gupta, Kasif Khan @ Gaikwad, Rehman and others kidnapped Rakesh Kathuria in Mumbai and kept him in captivity in a hideout arranged by Vishal Kapoor in Goregaon, Mumbai.

Further, at the instance of Adil Nawaz Khan, three more accused namely Vishal Mahesh Kapoor @ Yusuf Pathan, Kasif Khan @ Gaikwad and Rohit Singh @ Rahil were arrested on 22-12-08 from Santacruz area of Mumbai and one laptop belonging to the complainant was recovered. All the four accused persons were arrested vide case FIR No. 41/08 u/s 120 B r/w 364 A/384/506 IPC PS Crime Branch, New Delhi. Police custody remand of accused has been obtained to find out the possibility of some other motive apart from ransom as during captivity, accused persons had also deleted business related data from the laptop of Rakesh Kathuria and also to ascertain their involvements in other similar crimes as the flat in Goregaon was taken on rent of Rs 18000/- per month and was being used only as a hide-out.

Complainant Rakesh Kathuria is known as Babla in the film industry. He is a well known choreographer as well as actor. He has worked in many TV serials like “Dekh Bhai dekh” (Sony), “Durgesh Nandini” (Sony), “Preet” (ETC), “Tauba Tauba”, “Ye Bhi Khoob Rahi” (DD1), “Vaada” (DD 1) and “Aarzoo” etc. Apart from this he has also worked in a Bhojpuri movie “Padosi No. 1”, Tamil movie “Mr. Subramanium” and other regional movies. Rakesh Kathuria @ Babla has been in the fashion/film/TV industry for the last 15 years.
