DESCRIPTION:
There are two positions available, working 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday, performing difficult, skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment. Candidates will assist with facilitating the planning, prioritizing, assigning and ensuring the completion of assigned work order tasks. Will diagnose and repair mechanical construction equipment, or advise and assist other mechanics as required.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable ofthe latest industry trends and enthusiastic about sharing and teaching that knowledge.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician. Work may include handling more difficult repairs and periodic on-call status.
Anticipated hiring range: $39,312 - $47,000
Fleetpositions are "critical positions", meaningyou are required to report to work during adverse weather or other emergency situations, to maintainequipment and/or assist the FleetDivision in any capacity necessary to continue Town operations.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and services a variety of cars, construction equipment, trucks, and related equipment;
Repairs and overhauls specialized equipment including fire apparatus, sanitation equipment, leaf vacuums, jet-vacs, etc.
Processes work orders through the FASTER fleet management software;
Performs major and minor motor repair and replacement work;
Diagnoses and repairs multiplexing, Dual-CAN and OBDIIsystems and components;
Performs field servicing of vehicles and equipment to repair operational failure;
Performs repairs and replacements on diesel driven equipment;
Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls brakes, ignition and fuel systems, transmissions, hydraulic systems, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies;
Takes down, repairs and reassembles air compressors, pumps and related equipment;
Performs routine service work such as changing oil, lubrication, and tire repairs;
Makes emission system repairs;
Repairs air conditioning systems;
Repairs specialized systems such as foam injector systems;
Checks alignment of wheels; resurfaces brake drums and relines brakes;
Performs state vehicle inspections;
Troubleshoots diversified electrical work on automotive equipment and heavy equipment control systems;
Reviews specifications for new vehicles and equipment; makes suggestions before equipment is purchased;
Welds, cuts and fabricates parts and materials with cutting torch and welder to make necessary repairs to vehicles and equipment; designs and fabricates electrical and mechanical components for fire truck repairs/improvements;
Completes forms and records; accesses database and enters work orders and labor hours completed;
Uses OEM software for diagnostics of light, medium, and heavy duty equipment; uploads appropriate software and uses system information to assist in the troubleshooting of repairs needed and procedures to apply;
Participates in cleaning of shop area;
Repairs and maintains specialty vehicles such as hybrid and electric vehicles and clean burn exhaust system for diesel trucks;
Repairs specialized electrical and pumping systems on Fire apparatus;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Assist other technicians in shop with any maintenance or repairs as needed;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of light automotive passenger cars, trucks, construction and maintenance equipment; thorough knowledge and skill in the use of shop tools--such as scopes, electronic data readers, volt ohm meter, drills, presses, lathes, grinders, micrometers, brake relining and drum grinding machines; skill in the use and the operations of tools and machinery used in equipment repair work; ability to diagnose problems; ability to use computer equipment to access databases; ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken automotive part; ability to keep records of repairs and service operations and to make reports; ability to interpret and work from sketches, diagrams and installation and repair charts; ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRES:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerableautomotive/heavy duty/diesel mechanical experience
Possession of a Class B, or higher commercial driver's license (CDL) (or the ability to obtain within 6 months)
Safety and EmissionsInspector certification (or the ability to obtain within 3 months)
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (or the ability to obtain within 6 months)
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
PREFERRED:
Experience working in a municipal fleetshop or with similar heavy-duty vehicles/equipment is desirable
An associate's degree in automotive repair (or a closelyrelated degree) from a community college or extensive automotive/heavy duty/diesel mechanical experience
Experience in diagnosing and repairing sanitation trucks/equipment or fire apparatus
Previousexperience leading a team or a crew
Current possession of required licenses or certifications
ASE Master, EVT Master, EPA 609 and OBDII/Safety certifications (or the ability to obtain) are strongly preferred
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and email
Experience working with Fleet software
