JANUARY

  • Plan visits to colleges you might be interested in attending.

FEBRUARY

  • Register for AP tests.
  • Meet with counselor to schedule 12th grade classes. Consider ROP.
  • Sign up for SAT test prep.

MARCH

  • Begin investigating scholarships and other student aid programs on line or in the CounselingCenter.
  • Register and study for ACT or SAT

APRIL

  • Continue investigating funding sources.
  • Research a college that is compatible with your interests/major:
  • Schedule visits to the 3 – 5 colleges that you are interested in attending or take virtual tours of the campuses online.
  • Takean ACT/SAT prep course.
  • Begin preparing college essays for admissions and scholarship applications.
  • Compile a resume.
  • Contact people you may use as a reference.
  • Take the EAP (Early Assessment Program) test components during the 11th grade CAASP. Prepare for these tests at .

MAY

  • Take the ACT or the SAT... or the SAT Subject tests.
  • Take AP tests.
  • Consider taking an CCR class senior year.
  • Register with the NCAA if you are interested in being a college athlete. ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/common

JUNE/JULY

  • Take the ACT/SAT
  • Read a variety of books over the summer, review your math skills.
  • Obtain a summer job or volunteer in an area of interest to you.
  • If possible, save money for college costs.
  • Visit several colleges.
  • Take a college class at a community college.
  • Take a career inventory test/personality test on Naviance.

AUGUST

  • Review your high school coursework; know your GPA/class rank.
  • Take a rigorous course load both semesters of your senior year.
  • Register for ACT or SAT ...don’t forget SAT Subject tests.
  • Take a COC class (you may only take a COC course during the first semester of your senior year unless it is during the winter interim.) Don’t forget to get a concurrent enrollment signed by your counselor.
  • Start College Applications (UC System Opens in August)

SEPTEMBER

  • Visit the counselors for info on colleges, scholarships, test registration and the college application process.
  • Keep a master calendar of important deadlines for tests and applications.
  • Gather information that you need for the college application process...keep a folder.
  • Study, study, study.

OCTOBER

  • Review transcript with your counselor. Keep a printed copy for reference.
  • Begin the application process for CSU’s, private colleges and UC’s.
  • Last chance to register for the ACT/SAT.
  • Keep a college application folder...transcript, passwords, websites.
  • Begin letter of recommendation process...(senior brag sheet).

NOVEMBER

  • Complete CSU/UC applications ASAP; deadline is 11/30.
  • Apply to private colleges; some deadlines are in December – March.
  • Plan college visits for winter break and again for spring break.
  • Consider an ROP class or internship for 2nd semester.
