CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)

STUDENTS MUST TAKE FOUR (4) COURSES WITHIN THEIR CHOSEN CONCENTRATION IN ORDER TO COMPLETE!

This guide describes each concentration offered at PBHS CTC. Following the concentration descriptions are the courses required for completion of the concentration. Some concentrations have four required courses, while others have three required courses and allow students to choose between several options for the fourth course. Please check with any CTE teacher or the CTE Director for further clarification.

AGRICULTURE, SCIENCE AND NATURAL RESOURCES

Concentration: SN0110 Power, Structural and Technical Systems

The Power, Structural and Technical Systems concentration focuses on entrepreneurial skills and careers in the agricultural mechanics industry. Specializations for this concentration allow students to pursue their interests in either agricultural structures or agriculture repair and maintenance.

Concentration: SN0120 Agribusiness Systems

The Agribusiness Systems concentration focuses on entrepreneurial skills and careers in the broad spectrum of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. This concentration offers the most flexibility of all agriculture concentrations for students to select a specialization from many areas: Forestry, Horticulture, Advanced Agriculture Principles, Animal Science, Agriculture Mechanics, and Animal Processing.

Concentration: SN0170 Biotechnology and Natural Resources

Concentration Description:

The Biotechnology and Natural Resources Management concentration focuses on entrepreneurial skills and careers in the areas agricultural biotechnology and natural resources management. Specializations are offered in Natural Resources Management for students interested in postsecondary education in the area of natural resources management and Agricultural Biotechnology for students interested in postsecondary education in the area of advanced applied sciences in agriculture.

Concentration Description:

The Animal Systems concentration focuses on entrepreneurial skills and careers in the areas of animal production and management, animal science, livestock production, aquaculture, equine science and companion animal care. The concentration offers four unique specializations. Specializations are offered in Large Animal Science, Small Animal Science, Livestock Production, Companion Animal Care, Aquaculture and Equine Science.

Concentration Description:

The Accounting concentration focuses on careers that record, classify, summarize, analyze, and communicate a business’s financial information/business transactions for use in management decision making. Accounting includes such activities as bookkeeping, systems design, analysis, and interpretation of accounting information.

Concentration Description:

The Simulation and Game Development concentration focuses on a career such as a digital graphic technician for the simulation, gaming, and applications development industry. Students receive training in the basic skills required of the industry.

Concentration: BM1450 Information Management

Concentration Description:

The Information Management concentration focuses on careers that produce images through hands-on activities and experiences which will include: operating a digital camera, using imaging software, using drawing software, creating simple animations, and manipulating video images. Students will incorporate journalistic principles in design and layout of print and Web publications including integration of text and graphics and use of sophisticated hardware and software to develop and create quality materials for business-related tasks. Students will analyze the information and the audience and combine appropriate text, graphics, and design to communicate the desired message effectively.

Concentration Description:

Concentration: 1800 Building Maintenance and Operations

Concentration Description:

The Building Maintenance and Operations concentration focuses on careers that maintain a safe and productive environment, follow codes and regulations, identify unsafe conditions, and take corrective actions to reinstate a proper working and safe environment. Students will have the opportunity to earn NCCER certification for each skill set mastered and be exposed to skills to develop positive work ethics.

Concentration Description:

The Pre-Engineering concentration focuses a broad range of engineering careers and foundation knowledge including basic safety, plan reading, use of tools and equipment as well as how to employ positive work ethics in an engineering career.

Concentration: HE0723 Therapeutic Services

Concentration Description:

The Therapeutic Services Concentration allows the student to explore careers focused primarily on changing the health status of the patient over time. Health professionals in this concentration work directly with patients; they may provide care, treatment, counseling and health education information.

Concentration: HU1000 Early Childhood Education

Concentration Description:

The Early Childhood Education concentration focuses on the knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices of childhood development required for careers in the field of Early Childhood Education. Emphasis is placed on the integration of all aspects of development into best practices for nurturing children. This concentration prepares students for the Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist (ACDS), Childhood Development Associate (CDA) and/or AAFCS Pre-PAC Certification in Early Childhood Education.

Concentration Description:

The ProStart Restaurant Management concentration focuses on the skills needed for a successful employment in a restaurant environment. ProStart is a restaurant industry-driven curriculum developed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation with input from thousands of restaurant professionals. ProStart curriculum integrates performance-based learning with academics, entrepreneurship, and technology skills to prepare students for successful employment in the 21st Century.

Concentration: HU1300 Careers in Education

Concentration Description:

The Careers in Education concentration focuses on careers in teaching and training. In addition to being knowledgeable in their subject, teachers and trainers must have the ability to communicate, inspire trust and confidence, motivate learners, as well as understand their educational and emotional needs. Teachers must be able to recognize and respond to individual differences in diverse learners and employ different teaching/training methods that will result in higher learner achievement.
