* Explanation of CVHS PE grading scale %.

The CVHS Physical Education department uses a grading scale that is not a 10% grading scale used in many academic classes. Since a student’s grade is mostly participation we feel this keeps expectations high. Instead the entire PE Department uses a grading procedure where the students start each semester with all of their points and grade students off the points they have lost. (See above for %)

This equates to what appears as unusual percentages. (Example: an “A” is -6 points or 98.3% for the 1st Quarter)

(CONTINUED ON BACK)

FINAL EXAM: Students must score 80% or better on semester final. 79% or lower, student will drop one letter grade.

EXCUSES:

To be excused from certain activities in PE, a parent note is required. After 3 days a doctor’s note will be required for a student to be excused. Student’s will still dress out and do what they can to earn their daily points. A parent or doctor’s note does not excuse a student from dressing out. Not dressing out does not excuse the student from participating. If a doctor excuses a student, please ask the doctor to specify what activities the student CAN participate in (ex. Injured finger, but student can still run). Please contact your teacher with any questions.

LONG TERM NON-PARTICIPATION:

If a student misses 15 days or more of Physical Education class / activities (during a semester) due to a doctor’s note that excuses the student from ALL participation (due to illness / injury), then the student will receive a grade of “INCOMPLETE” if they do not complete the “physical activity” make ups before the end of the semester. Note: “INCOMPLETE” grade will be changed when the student has made up days missed due to illness / injury. Students / parents are encouraged to seek Dr. approved alternative activities that can be performed by the student.

APPROVED MAKEUPS FOR LONGTERM ILLNESS / INJURY:

CVHS PE teacher supervised physical activity (intramurals or after school weightlifting in CVHS weight room). Note: article summaries (non-physical make-ups) may not be used for long term illness / injury / absence.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SYSTEM (PBIS) As members of the Coyote family, we pride ourselves on our dedication to Community, Values, Honor and Scholarship. Students are expected to meet specific positive behavioral standards both in and out of the classroom. These behaviors, such as being respectful and practicing academic honesty, are what make Campo Verde such an amazing place to learn. During this school year, students will participate in a school-wide initiative focused on the promotion and reinforcement of the expected standards of behavior.
