CALL FOR ABSTRACTS -“Making Value Out of Data”

The first Insight Student Conference will take place in12 September 2014inUniversity College Dublinaround the theme “Making Value Out of Data”. The objectives of this conference are:

1.  Presents a snapshot of current research activity conducted in Insight for other Insight members.

2.  Provides a summary of Insight research to people outside of Insight (e.g. media, government, and others).

3.  Provides an opportunity for students to organize a medium sized research meeting.

All students associated to Insight Centre for Data Analytics are invited to send a 1-page extended abstractsummarisingtheir current research. All abstracts will be reviewed by at least two Insight members. The authors of accepted abstracts are invited to submit a poster to be presented in the Insight Student Conference.

All accepted abstracts would be submitted to a voting system where Insight members may vote for the best abstract. The most voted ones will be invited to give a short presentation at the conference.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The extended abstract must not exceed1 pageand should follow the template given in the Insight Student Conference 2014 websitehttps://www.insight-centre.org/content/insight-student-conference-2014. The research should be related to the central theme of the conference: “Making value out of data”.

The main sections to appear in the extended abstract are:Motivation,Problem Statement,Related Work,Research Question,Hypothesis,Proposed Solution, andEvaluation. It is not required to follow those sections in the structure of the abstract but it is required to have all this information present in the document. Any submission missing information about one of these topics should not be accepted. Students in the beginning of their studies (i.e. in the first year) can present a Discussion session about why their approach is suitable to solve the problem instead of a formal Evaluation. All files submitted must be inPDF format.

All submissions should be made using the Easy Chair system through the linkhttps://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=insightsc2014. Note that it is required for the author to have an Easy Chair account before the submission.

Each extended abstract will pass through a review process with at least two reviewers for each abstract. The abstract can be accepted, accepted with minor corrections, or rejected. If one abstract get the status of accepted with minor corrections it should be reviewed and resubmitted considering the comments from reviewers. If an abstract is rejected it cannot be presented at the Insight Student Conference.

Each accepted abstract should be presented as a poster in the Insight Student Conference. It will follow anA0portrait template to be published in the website of the conference. All posters must to be submitted during the camera-ready period by using the Easy Chair system. All posters will be printed and set up at the event at no cost for the participants.
