FOOD INFORMATION

Below is a list of food(s) we feed our dogs and cats here at Operation Kindness:

·  ADULT DOGS/PUPPIES:

Dry food: Muenster Natural Chicken & Pork for all life stages

Canned food: Pro Plan Savor Chicken & Rice

·  CATS/KITTENS:

Dry food: Natural Balance Ultra Chicken & Salmon for all life stages

Canned food: Fancy Feast (We feed ¼ to ½ can twice daily)

·  SPECIAL DIET: ______

If you are advised that your new pet is on a special diet, please follow the medical advice and feeding instructions and/or consult with your veterinarian.

While your adopted pet is acclimating to his/her new environment, we recommend continuing their current diet (wet/dry mixture for dogs canned food twice daily with dry fed separately for cats). If you wish to change over to a different brand of food, it is best to mix in the new food with the current food slowly over a few weeks. We recommend the following transition:

Days 1-3 / Days 4-6 / Days 7-9
½ new to ¾ current / ½ new to ½ current / ¾ new to ¼ current

This will help prevent stomach upset for your new pet. Also, feeding your pets on a regular schedule will help with potty training, and prevent overeating.

What brand of food is best for my pet?

o  Consult with your veterinarian or visit: www.dogfoodadvisor.com

How much should I feed my pet?

o  As a general rule, follow the guidelines on the bag according to your pet’s weight. If your pet is over or underweight, adjust the amount of food as needed.

What if my pet doesn’t eat at first?

o  Adult cats: It’s not uncommon for a healthy cat to not eat for the first 24 hours due to stress. Try offering alternative cat food options/brands. Contact our medical department if it’s been more than 24 hours or if there are additional signs of illness.

o  Adult dogs: It’s not uncommon for a healthy dog to not eat for the first 24 hours due to stress. Try adding canned chicken or more wet food. Contact our medical department if it’s been more than 24 hours or if there are additional signs of illness.

o  Puppies/ Kittens: Contact medical staff if more than 12 hours since their last meal.
