RE:Summer Professional Development Proposals

We are currently seeking proposals from teachers and administrators for professional development sessions to be presented this summer in addition to sessions being offered by our professional development specialists and education technology specialists. Several reasons support this request:

  1. Many of our administrators and teachers are experienced and recognized presenters.
  2. Utilizing local staff will expand our ability to offer a variety of professional development opportunities, especially since we are allowing teachers to “flex” up to two days of professional development activities this year.
  3. The EDUCATEAlabama version of the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards Continuum of Teacher Development requires that, in order to move beyond the Emerging level to the Integrating and Innovating levels, teachers contribute to local school and district growth by moving outside their classroom to collaborate with other teachers and/or to present instruction to their peers.

Principals or teachers interested in presenting professional development opportunities during the summer of 2010 should fill out the attached proposal form. This form should be completed and submitted by email attachment to Gail Carpenter by Thursday, April 8, 2010.

Proposals must meet the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards, follow Calhoun County’s Professional Development Policy, and meet the local school or system level Continuous Improvement Plan. Sessions should follow a three-hour or six-hour format. These sessions must be presented during the months of June and July.

If approved, the proposed professional development activity may be considered a part of Calhoun County’s Flex Day sessions. If the proposed session is approved and accepted, the teacher / presenter may earn flex professional development hours for preparing and presenting that session per Board policy (category V – A). Sessions presented outside of the presenter’s needed professional development hours may earn a stipend at the rate of $300 per full day (six-hour) session.

Completion of the proposal form does not guarantee inclusion in the summer program. Individuals whose proposals are accepted will be notified by Thursday, April 22.
