NO. R-346. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the 2008 Rutland High School Raiders boys’ and girls’ champion snowboarders.

By Representatives Andrews of Rutland City, Courcelle of Rutland City, Flory of Pittsford, Howard of Rutland City, McCormack of Rutland City and McNeil of Rutland Town,

Whereas, Rutland High School student snowboarders displayed amazing swiftness and mobility at the 2008 annual state snowboarding championship tournament, and

Whereas, in 2008, this premier snowboarding event for Vermont high school teams and individual students was held over two days at Okemo Mountain in Ludlow and at Bromley Mountain in Manchester, and

Whereas, the Raiders boys’ team captured its state title with the low score of 55 points, outpacing second place Burr and Burton Academy’s score of 88, and

Whereas, Ryan Allaire and Matt Douglass scored second and third respectively in the giant slalom and later reversed the order of finish in the slopeside competition, and in between those two races, Matt Douglass completed his sweep of great finishes, coming in second in the halfpipe race, and

Whereas, the entire boys’ team, including Ryan Allaire, Jake Caggige, Matthew Douglass, Peter Furman, Adam Hough, McGregor Mangan, Bijan Razzaghi, John Schwalbe, Justin Snide and Robert Southwith, demonstrated a love and command of this still-young sport, and

Whereas, Matthew Douglass earned the highest combined male score and was awarded the individual boy’s title, and

Whereas, the girl Raiders were equally impressive on their snowboards, capturing the team title with a low score of 48 points, nearly 20 better than their nearest rival, Burr and Burton Academy, and

Whereas, Rutland’s Shannon Kennelly won the girls’ slopeside race while teammate Lilith Buhk was close behind in third place, Courtney Findeisen in fifth place, Raider Jennifer Dutton clinched the girls’ giant slalom with a time of 1:22:66, and Shannon Kennelly and Jennifer Dutton earned second and third place respectively for their halfpipe runs, and

Whereas, Shannon Kennelly’s combined point total enabled her to win the individual girls’ title and

Whereas, coach Heather House assisted her young student snowboarders in their quest for victory, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2008 Rutland High School Raiders boys’ and girls’ champion snowboarders, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the snowboarding coaching staff at Rutland High School.
