Darker Side
By Mike Sawyer
Foreword
As we look at life through our own eyes, all we see is what pertains to ourselves. But if we take a moment to look at life through the eyes of another the world begins to become more clear and focused. So, I ask that as you begin the journey through this book that you open your mind and look through the eyes of the passion that the author has shown.
The contents of this work are not only full of passion but also full of the author’s personal life experience. This poetry takes a look not only at life but also spirituality from more than one point of view. You as a reader will see that in this poetry there is not only passion but also, emotions of all kinds, visualization, and narrative.
This poetry is something that, while you may have to read it more than once to understand every little nuance the author has put into it, you will enjoy every read through this book. So, as you begin the enjoyable task of reading this book I once again wish to remind you to open your mind, sit back, get comfortable, and enjoy the visual and emotional ride through the world of Free verse poetry!

“Do not lay down your dreams, destiny is only within a fingers touch. The hour of darkness falls for man. Let the words of the ancient poets be found with open minds. Let us not fall to our pleasures”.

Monk

A Bridge Burning
Sirens spread news of horror and dismay,
a war underway by a wicked government.
Souls march off to bottled ships in a greasy harbor,
private thoughts reign with an iron fist.
Early morning growls of diesel engines haunt children’s minds.
Supplies shipped to firebases with haste,
letters going home,
found a backseat in a shot down cargo plane.
Passenger trains bringing home wounded soldiers,
naval fleets parade around the ocean with a grim stance.
Newspapers compounded by conflicting emotions,
television shows lost their sparkle.
Frigid days lay ahead,
seasons change from summer to fall.
There is no end in sight,
massive frontal assaults bleed the troops dry.
New tanks hit the front lines,
bombs shred the beautiful cities.
Death waits in deep black shadows.
Silent words hang left between families,
funerals reinforce this new tradition.
Calls reach home with a maddening rate, emotional release is a new drug. Introduced by military commanders,
psychological war on the home front.
A well within
Stealth footsteps through the hallway of time,
a hearts burden.
Through the eyes of my life I've seen many aches and sorrows,
stillborn in my effort to revive these dreams.
Oh how does the hate grow?
Every waking moment is a ghost of
failure that makes me grows so cold.
Courage is not found in a bottle,
tears shed the blood of my mistakes.
This stillness of the darkness is the only light I have.
A little spark,
a dire age gave me an eternal dream.
The ink well was dry and the quill was dying in my
hand, words from long ago ignited a war flame inside.
As the candlelight fades before the poet sleeps,
wishes for life are upon your soul.
"love is the will, unity is the family,
dreams are the souls of humanity".
Blindness restores my vision as I close the book to my nightmares and I can breathe the fresh air of another day.
Achieving Humanity
Each soul calls out,
Rather in daylight or by night’s pleasure.
Simplicity of these “calls” is not for cheap models.
Some are natural and others are artificial enhancers.
Listen with the heart and you’ll find them,
stories placed inside them.
Unravel the strain and delightful time will by yours,
Shun away from education.
This will be lost among the groves of the dead.
True society by nature is to embrace the individual’s experience.
Never fear the mistakes of strangers,
Pass onto them your denials and joys.
Waken the angel within,
ancient lords dwell in these sanctuaries.
Nobility found in acts and not monetary control,
Honor is the blood of the strong guiding and aiding the weak.
Enslaved to artificial masters,
Eyes weep the forgotten tears.
Somewhere in your mind lays a basic fundamental of happiness.
The burden is carried can be shared by others.
Enlighten your life,
Dream of childhood dreams.
Pursue your achievement through humanity,
Not around it.
Alarm
Black sunset is watching me closely,
I have backed away in numbness.
Seriously in these thoughts as I observe this world’s fall,
composing an eternal eulogy for them.
My mind is tumbling as my pen scribbles across the page.
Nights come to me with a needful passion,
embracing my deepest levels.
Trusting my instincts on bleakest issues,
extending my hand to these tormented souls.
Pity, I couldn’t express these boring rituals of the humanoids,
I regret the fact that they cannot be saved.
Never is a cold bred word to say,
ever sounding a defeatist.
Sadly, I note self-blinding to mortal consequences,
I will not hover among the sickened angels.
Howls from the moon will not sever my bond to this world,
diehard to the end.
I will stand among the crumbling statues.
Among the Theories
Traumatic decisions cost a soul,
gambling along the radical tablets.
corruption manifests among the cracks in the foundation of society.
Written anger among the poets,
silence is the genocide of freedom.
Oppressed to believer “their” way is the only way,
depressive mindset to succumb to pacification of avoiding rebellion.
Stalement of issues,
Hand delivered to the press.
Shadowy concurrence within the power circle,
Killing dreams before they bloom.
Enslaved to life,
Returning furious entertainment to one another.
Alcoholism to pass time,
Drug addiction to avoid a stance.
Pressure increased on productivity for the fourth class man.
Cost of living becomes a serial killer,
all hands are lost to heaven.
Revolution brews underground,
dead heroes await destiny.
Believe in something more cynical,
driving down the gas prices of cyanide transportation.
Embracing departure before lifting off,
tears spent their last night with alcohol.
Veins accept truth from the needle,
undecided world burns away.
Have we already died?
Is this a new gentler holocaust?
An Hour After
“Heed my presage for darkness conspires in this
infantile age.
Summon forth all aid that can be,
forge alliance with those that will be.
War cannot be circumvented by our means nor of mortal urges.
Our existence in question will be expunged.”
Rise angels, tomorrow brings death and destiny.
Darkness engulfs the earth,
humans lay in peril’s path.
Bring forth hearts of steel and the Gods’ scorn into battle.
Muster among twilight’s scorching shield for deployment,
fear not the hour of death but deliver this hour unto they foes.
Every race has been inducted into this war,
Spring’s wind carries courage as the days wonder on by.
Fields lay in horrid disarray,
Blood nurtures the graves for the dead.
Human’s entomb yourselves with faith and embitter thy enemies with an epic heart.
Turn to Gaea,
Her womb is yours to partake in.
Align the dreams of victory with the nightmares of savagery,
forestall your demise on earth.
Summer’s rain quenches the wounded's thirst for life.
Cross the threshold of death and into Hades’ castle with a staunch valor.
Elves listen to thy forest homes die from evil’s campaign.
Crono’s fate lies in your hearts,
Autumn becomes a strong magic in your soul.
Stop weeping for yourselves,
Begin anew with nature’s fury.
Stand watch in midnights glow,
Waver as a mirage to the enemy.
Be strength to fallen allies,
Surround the enemies’ assault as wind during rain.
Empty their casks (blood) for earth’s parched lips.
Dwarves, become noble warriors once again in this bleak time.
Raise your spirits to Ares,
For his love shall overpower all dour realities.
Winter blesses your hands with ore,
Turn your will to Vulcan so his hands can craft perfection.
Bless thy enemies with every killing stroke,
Forge darkness’s doom on thine anvils,
Winter holds comfort in thy furnaces.
Give to her the bodies that belong in her cold gardens of Death.
An Hour Before
Dark angels upraise from your sleeping tombs,
tomes of ancient horror foretell the disgrace.
Fires of hell,
shimmer and calls for souls.
Darkness prowls all thoughts and produces an evil offspring,
a midnight mass blesses this one.
Humanity has fallen,
old glory hinders this new age evolution.
Demons of old,
come forth drink from the sacrifice.
Bury all in death’s crypt,
forgotten acts of malice are yours to revive.
Powers are kept within your own violent hearts.
Obey these orders,
beware of time for aggression blinds both master and slave.
Wait for the black sun,
listen to the glee of the tomes.
That is the signal to bring forth decay and destruction on mans’ destiny.
Witches and warlocks gather to the table,
the hour is cold and you are needed.
Resurrect the families before the golden dawn,
be guardians for this new year.
Guide the commanders’ well,
instruments of mage and war lay before you.
Not one birth is to survive the coming of the Anti Gods.
Angel Seven
A little of the year has died,
tragedy fell upon helpless souls.
Horror that was unknown until now,
never was it found in books of man nor heard from the voice of God.
Seven bodies to be lost among the earth dwellers,
seven souls that could not be saved.
They were dragged to the altar,
strung on crosses and mutilated.
Powerful cries of agony swept the starless sky,
flesh became parchment for a devil’s use.
Organs were delicacies on this harvest-feast.
Small flames danced wickedly around the ceremony.
Mocking gestures of humanity became common,
obscenity denounced the Gods will to intervene.
Darkness surrounded the deaths of seven people,
heaven faded a bit more.
This truth of the ink will be misshaped,
another burning page to mankind engaged in self destruction.
As for me I was an angel,
who was there and found wounds to be friends,
my intervention brought damnation to all.
May the Gods keep you,
let wrath prey upon my enemies.
I will be watching,
I will be waiting.
Angel Seven.
Annie
My heart is open to your touch,
I cannot hide these feelings I had to live through.
I wouldn’t change a thing,
I want you for all who you are.
Butterflies caresses your hair,
wishing I could show you what you are worth to me.
Moonlight dances in those gentle eyes,
I know this is imperfect but let me try.
Holding you at night is an honor for me,
you are the light that carries me from my darkest point to heaven’s waterfall.
Indebted to a soul that cannot be of a mortal,
only the ones above know you truly.
Giving in for my desire to kiss the heart that cherishes me so.
My life has become a book,
write in me to fulfill your wishes.
It hurts me to let you down and this sad mantel is where I hang my last breath.
Over the ancient eras I’ve learned to love from you,
in my mortal life I will love you until the coldness of earth returns me home.
Then I will be complete with you in heaven,
as our child grows.
My heart is entombed with you forever,
my love shall never die.
Ashes to Fate, Dust to Destiny
Blood meal, a token for the God of Darkness.
Stolen virgin life upon this sabbatical altar,
pale as death’s love.
Dreaming alone in the thickest shroud,
sleeping among the graves.
Burning lust on the stake.
Madness befriends all lost souls,
the damned lay awake on the wedding night of earth and moon.
Dispensing pleasure to these unhallowed bodies,
filthy appetites thirst on this sour drink.
Fear, the ultimate devil’s delight bemoans her wretched fate.
Children die by the hour,
catcalling doom as their lives become stale.
Intravenous grime,
fed through rotting bronze tubes,
silent rituals once spoken to the undead.
Moons, spiral around the hands of murder,
entertaining dementia as an honored guest.
Wails descend this illness,
demons fly through the black mist.
Hatred prepares a gateway,
low melody of ascending destiny.
Lethargic moods,
disturbed acts of horror befall the priests.
Weary legends dissipate as life is destroyed,
releasing of the demon Sadio on this world.
Aura
Only you can stop time with the sapphire glitter in those eyes.
Mornings are soft kisses to my soul,
I can See you dance with the lonely winds.
Down in the darkness where I hide myself,
your presence shakes my roots from the tainted soil. Dreams come from you as I sleep at night,
the silver aura of your spirit drives me wild as I swim in the ocean of passion.
Passion unlike the candle's,
I am lost in your love.
This body of my shakes as I fumble with words,
every time you are near.
With worlds colliding and death dividing the spoils of war,
I know I'm the one man alive to have the gift of life.
You’re teasing whispers I will obey to my dying hour,
your heart is like a black rose.
With stars swirling around your soul,
I feel the Goddesses hold me near.
I will suffer every hell so that it will never wilt,
I will win every war so that you may never shed a tear of loss.
I promise to, I promise to, I promise to love you,
I promise to love you forever
Author of Denial
Stale coffee,
cigarette long burned out.
Sitting still in the dim light,
thinking of you.
A vibrant memory takes me away to a forgotten realm,
so gentle was those kisses that I feel abused.
Walking along the dream tides,
giving all to you.
Everything was brand new,
a virgin to love.
Your hands molding me into a golden statue,
breathing life into my stillborn clay.
Now as time swings on by,
I have lost that golden shine.
Tiny tears tells the story,
forever hiding in the closet of denial.
Scared to withdraw my farce anger,
not wanting to bring out the angel trapped within.
Quiet melody is the blood in my veins,
meteoric shyness to those I meet.
Tiring magic drains my energy,
preferring to dwell in the arms of miserable existence.
Watching my youth fade into a bitter old man,
never realizing there is a family for me.
Introverted by nature,
loneliness is a close kin.
In my heart I yearn to feel a passionate embrace of a woman.
Ever dying to unshroud my nightmares,
demons parade in my waking days.
Alone in this aptitude I find solace in my fictional grave.
Below the Waterline
Coldness surrounds me as my eyes die,
demons rise in my shattered soul.
Deliver me from my internal evil.
Crossing the cosmic path to the despondent beliefs.
Falling asleep in the middle of glory,
raging self-hate is a bitter gun to my head.
Can I pull the trigger?
Shallow light drowns me,
washing myself in lamb’s blood to feel this sorrow.
Reckless dreams full of apathy,
ruined on a mountainside.
My veins are bleeding dry,
all mistakes are mine to cuddle.
Turning toward the dark portal,
everything has died in my hands.
Twisting smiles of the one I love,
cancerous nightmares I bless to this world.
Pain explodes and my mind falls below the water line.
Will I die now?
Black Mirror
Grey shadows align a bloody window pane,
inside the old Victorian mansion is a horror.
profound in depth and mystique ignorance,
a lone mirror remains in the master bedroom.
Voices edge around corners of this refuge,
old stairs led upstairs to a lost story.
Torn curtains stained with souls,
Creaking floorboards full of historic malice.
Emotional scars mark these walls,
spirits roam around in anguish.
Down the hallway inside a rusted bathroom,
