In this pack you will find a set of rules for the weekly sessions delivered, with a consent form and membership form. Please read the rules and complete the forms; parents fill in the consent form and young people complete the membership form. Once completed return them to the appropriate session for club records, these are essential for health and safety purposes.

History of Feature Youth Club

The Youth Club was set up in 1990 and was made up of three individual groups, Feature 1, 2 and 3, meeting on a Friday night according to their age groups. The club was named ‘Feature’ by the members of the club at the time. Ever since the club was formed, it has always been a popular meeting place and attendances have always been good.

Over time the club went through a series of changes as leaders have departed, often without replacement and eventually two of the groups had to close. Feature 2, for eight to 11 year olds, survived this period and became known as Feature which formed the basis of the present day set up.

With the number of volunteers supporting Feature down to just three it became apparent that the club needed to develop its own leaders. From this point an exciting chapter opened and a team of selected young leaders began supporting the club. The success of this initiative has seen the stature of Feature grow continually.

Eventually it became apparent that there was a need to accommodate the members who left when they were over 11 and several attempts were made to set up a second club. Eventually a successful attempt, led by two young leaders occurred and Feature 2 was born. On the first occasion one youngster turned up and was supervised by six leaders, this led to swift policy changes and members of Feature 1 were encouraged to join the older club as they moved into secondary school.

During the last two years up to eighty youngsters regularly attend Friday nights enjoying a safe and relaxed evening, with a wide range of activities organised. The club is also dedicated to running frequent outings and activity days around the county and even making occasional visits to venues across the North West.

Feature Youth Club Today

Feature Youth Club offers a safe and positive environment where young people can meet, socialise and develop their interests and hobbies. The project also supports accredited programmes such as Keyfund, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Youth Challenge and Youth Achievement Awards. The work for these projects can take place through the club; however the club sessions are focused on relaxing and enjoyment. The planning and any paperwork for these takes place at Ulverston Youth Base on Tuesday Evenings or at UVHS Drop In (details below). For more information please see Andrew.

The club is split into two age groups. The younger group is planned for the young people, by the leaders, using ideas the young people have put forward. This group is delivered by the young leaders; the young leaders team have been a key part in the development of the club in recent years.

The older group is a more free choice session, the programme planned is a guideline created in the same way as the younger group. The key difference is the group members may change the programme to suite their needs. Staff will decide if the change is safe and feasible before a change takes place. The group also need to help setup and pack away any activities they choose to take part in.
