DISTRICT 104 BUS POLICY

School District 104 provides bus transportation for students in the district living a distance from their home school or more than a mile and a half from their home school. Bus stop locations and times will be available prior to the start of the 2003-2004 school year. Completion of this form will assist us in planning the routes. Students must have a completed registration form on file in the school office in order to ride the bus.

Bus transportation for the students of District 104 is regarded as a privilege, not a right. It will be provided for students whose behavior meets the expectations that allow for a safe, efficient ride to and from school. It is expected that students will:

·  obey the bus driver’s requests and instructions

·  get on and off the bus at the assigned bus stop

·  keep head, arms and all objects inside the windows

·  remain seated

·  refrain from eating or chewing gum

·  keep hands and feet to themselves and away from other students

·  use polite language to other students and adults

·  talk quietly so as not to distract the driver

·  refrain from bringing inappropriate objects onto the bus

·  keep windows above the designated “open line”

·  treat the bus seats, walls and windows carefully so as not to cause any damage

·  refrain from fighting, including “play fighting”

Consequences for student behavior that does not meet the above expectations include parent notification; designated seating on the bus; principal, parent, student conference; bus suspension; bus expulsion.

Each District 104 school bus is equipped with a camera, which makes a film record of each student’s behavior. The purpose of this monitoring is to limit misbehavior on each bus and provide safer bus transportation. Should a student problem occur on a bus the principal might review the film record to determine the cause of the problem.

For safety reasons it is mandatory that parents choosing to have their child/children ride the bus understand that this choice includes two-way bus transportation, except in the case of attendance at before or after school activities. Unless notified otherwise, in writing, your child/children are expected to be on his/her assigned bus both before and after school unless you send a note to the principal notifying her/him of some change. Riding the bus is not to be mistaken as a day-to-day, morning to afternoon, dependent upon the weather, decision. If you sign up your child/children for bus transportation, he/she/they will be expected to be on the bus, every morning and afternoon, the only exceptions being those mentioned above.
