Orientation Leader Position Description

The Office of Orientation and Leadership Development has a dual focus. One aspect of the office has the primary focus of assisting new students and their families as they transition to the University through comprehensive programs that take place throughout a calendar year. The other focus of the office is providing information and training to undergraduate students in leadership development. To support these efforts, the Office of Orientation and Leadership Development will hire a team of undergraduate student orientation leaders (OLs).

·  Be a current, full time undergraduate student for the 2014-2015 academic year

o  Learning to Lead Leadership Conference – October 4, 2014

o  Orientation Leader Retreat – November 14-15, 2014

o  Register for and successfully complete the orientation leader training course- LDRSP 3960 (3 credit hours) during Spring 2015

o  Attend Orientation Leader Intensive Training- May 26-June 5, 2015

Benefits

Orientation Leaders are required to work fulltime starting May 26-August 2014 and compensation will be a stipend of $2500 for May-August 2014. On-campus housing will also be provided for OLs from May 26-July 23, 2015. Additionally, OLs will gain the intrinsic value of having served the new incoming class of Utah students, have the opportunity to develop their leadership abilities and professional skills, and receive mentoring from University of Utah professional staff members. Successful Orientation Leaders exemplify four leadership characteristics: Leadership, Teamwork, Professionalism, and Knowledge. The Office of Orientation & Leadership Development seeks candidates who can speak to their experiences in these arenas. The chart below provides some explanation of these characteristics including various skills and experiences for each. Application Timeline

The application process includes the proper completion of the Orientation Leader Application (includes paper application and attendance at 1 Orientation Leader Info Session), a group interview, and an individual interview. Preliminary decisions will be made once all applications have been received and the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the personal and group interviews.

·  OL Decisions Out: September 24
