Board Report – November 28, 2012

A.  PERSONNEL

1.  Recommend approval of Employee Hiring NJSA 18A:6-7 et seq (Revised 6/30/98)

WHEREAS N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1 et seq has been revised and now requires emergent approval to employ an individual prior to receiving criminal history background clearance.

BE IT RESOLVED that an application be submitted to the County Superintendent of Schools in accordance with the revised statute, requesting emergent approval of employee hiring for the following individuals for the reasons as indicated.

Jill Rocco Effective 11/29/12, due to

Academic Achievement – PT a termination.

2. Recommend approval of the following substitutes for the

2012/2013 school year, pending meeting employment requirements, as listed:

Teachers:

Denise Carroll; Bertrand Cooper; Greg Connlain; Angela

Davies; William Fleming; Anthony Petrizzo; and, Elaina Weinstein.

3. Accept, with regret, the retirement/resignation of Denise

Dalton, elementary teacher at B. Bernice Young School, effective December 31, 2012. Mrs. Dalton is also requesting payment for all accumulated personal, sick and family illness days, per the negotiated agreement. Mrs. Dalton has served the district for 11 years.

4. Accept, with regret, the retirement/resignation of William

Johnson, School Bus Aide, effective November 21, 2012. Mr. Johnson has served the district for 7 years.

5. Recommend approval of a maternity/child-rearing leave of

absence for Alisha Dumont, teacher of Special Education at Burlington Township Middle School @ Springside, effective November 14, 2012 through April 19, 2013, under the FMLA and NJFMLA Family Leave Acts. Mrs. Dumont is also requesting use of her accumulated sick leave as per the negotiated agreement.

6. Recommend approval for Kimberlee Waitman to extend her

maternity/child-rearing leave of absence through November 9, 2012.

* 7. Recommend approval of Amy Marchetty to extend her

maternity/child-rearing leave of absence through April 30, 2013.

* 8. Recommend approval of Jill Rocco to serve as a part-time

Academic Achievement teacher at Fountain Woods School, pending meeting employment requirements, effective November 29, 2012 through June 30, 2013, at the BA level, step “D”, salary as negotiated, prorated.

9. Recommend approval of Tara Kuroda to serve as an interim
replacement for a teacher of Science at Burlington Township

Middle School @ Springside, effective November 26, 2012 through April 19, 2013, replacing Patricia Warren.

* 10. Recommend approval of Kristina Curcio to serve as an

interim replacement for a teacher of Special Education at Burlington Township Middle School @ Springside, effective November 29, 2012 through April 19, 2013, replacing Mrs. Dumont.

* 11. Recommend approval of the transfer of sick days to employee

#7232 per an agreement between the Superintendent and Burlington Township Education Association.

12. Recommend approval of the following additional Exceptional

Aide, effective October 22, 2012, as listed:

13. Recommend approval of the following additional volunteer

chaperone for the field hockey trip to Norfolk, Virginia, as listed:

14. Recommend approval of the following Volunteer Coaches for

* 17. Recommend approval of Chris Ilconich, Vice Principal, to

serve as a mentor for Nicholas Luyber for an administrative internship.

18. Recommend approval of the following staff members to move

on the salary guide, effective November 1, 2012, due to completion of additional college credits, as listed:

a. Siobhan Holland, part-time Academic Achievement

teacher, from the BA+15 level to the MA level. (All the necessary documentation has been received from Walden University.)

* b. Walter Spiehs, Supervisor, from the MA level to the

MA+15 level. (All the necessary documentation has been received from Delaware Valley College.)

* c. Roxanne Ferguson, teacher of Music, from the BA+15

level to the MA level. (All the necessary documentation has been received from Boston University.)

19. Recommend approval of deduct days for the following staff members, as listed:

a. Gretchen Jackson, elementary teacher at Fountain Woods School, 1 day, December 3, 2012; and,

* b. Frances Massimi, part-time clerk at B. Bernice

Young School, 3 days, December 14, 17 & 18, 2012.

20. Recommend approval of Susan Berg, a student at Drexel

University, to observe a special education class at the Burlington Township Middle School @ Springside during the Fall of 2012.

* 21. Recommend approval of Mary Cherubini, Special Education

Aide, to complete 100 hours of field experience in School Counseling during the second semester of the 2012-13 school year. Mrs. Cherubini is a graduate student in the School Counseling Program at Georgian Court University. Dr. Lana Garris-Sha will be the counselor overseeing Ms. Cherubini’s field experience.

B. STUDENTS

1. Recommend approval of bedside instruction for the following

students, as listed: one 12-yr. old 7th gr. boy, effective 10/4/12 – 10/16/12, physical; one 12-yr. old 7th gr. girl, effective 11/19/12 – 6/30/13, physical; one 13-yr. old 7th gr. boy, effective 11/16/12 – 6/30/13, physical; one 13-yr. old 8th gr. girl, effective 10/24/12 - indefinite, physical; one 14-yr. old 8th gr. boy, effective 10/25/12 – emotional, pending evaluation; one 14-yr. old 8th gr. girl, effective 11/21/12 – 12/3/12, emotional, pending evaluation; and, one 19-yr. old 12th gr. boy, 11/20/12 – 12/31/12, physical.

2. Recommend approval of a long-term suspension of student

3. Recommend approval of costs incurred for a private chaperone

2.  Recommend approval of the Nursing Services Plan for the 2012-2013 school year.

3. Recommend approval of payment for one chaperone and bus

transportation to and from the airport for the senior class trip.

4. Recommend acceptance of the monthly Harassment,

Intimidation and Bullying Report of Incidents per Board of Education Policy #S5512.01 and the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act of 2011.

5. Request approval of the following reports as submitted to the

Board Secretary for inclusion in the minutes pursuant to Board Policy: (a) Building Use; (b) Student Accidents; (c) Pupil Suspensions; (d) Professional Meetings; (e) Class Trips; and, (f) Enrollment.

D. BUSINESS

1.  Approve payment of the November 2012 Bill List and the October 2012 Supplemental Bill List.

2.  Accept the October Treasurer’s and Secretary’s Reports with Board Secretary Certification.

3. Pursuant to NJAC 6:20-2.13 (e) we certify that as of October 31, 2012, after review of the secretary’s monthly financial report (appropriations section) and upon consultation with the appropriate district officials, to the best of our knowledge, no major account or fund has been overexpended in violations of NJAC 6A:23-2.11 (a) and that sufficient funds are available to meet the district’s financial obligations for the remainder of the fiscal year.

4. Approval of October transfers.

5. Recommend approval of an Agreement Between Archway Programs, Inc. and Burlington Township School District re. Archway Programs Refund.

6. Approval for Invo Care to provide a Speech Therapist to cover for a staff member who has been called to Grand Jury Duty every Wednesday for 18 months beginning October 24, 2012.

7. Approve W.J. Gross changeorder credit (CO-1) in the amount of $10,035 from unused allowance on the High School Press Box.

8. Re-affirmation Motion of the following items for action taken at the November 14, 2012 Work Session, as listed:

a. Recommend approval of the District Performance

Reviews (DPR’s) and Statement of Assurances (SOA’s) which are due November 15, 2012 as required under New Jersey QSAC Monitoring.
