Building a Home with Heart Couples Retreat

A training program for strengthening healthy marriage and couple relationships

designed for Adoptive, Kinship and Fostering parents

sponsored by Michigan State University and the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange

What is this training about?

This training retreat will include information about:

• Understanding the unique challenges and opportunities for a couple raising children from foster care
• Ways for couples to strengthen their friendship and communication
• Ideas to manage the inevitable day-to-day decisions and conflicts
• Tips for couples to strengthen family bonds and loyalty

Who Should Attend?

Married and /or committed couples who plan to or are currently raising children who are adopted, in foster care and/or are kin.

When is the Training Scheduled?

This training will be offered in a retreat format. Three retreats will be offered one each in May, June and July. Retreats are held:

Friday - 6:00PM – 9:00PM (Registration at 5:30PM) – Light Snack served

Saturday - 9:00AM – 4:00PM – Complimentary Breakfast at the hotel and Lunch served

Sunday - 9:00AM – 12:00PM – Complimentary Breakfast at the hotel and Lunch served

It will be necessary to attend the entire weekend to complete the program and earn 12 hours of training.

What is the Cost of the Training?

This training is free to couples that sign up and commit to attending for the entire weekend. Lodging will be provided free of charge to registered couples. Child care will not be provided – please arrange for child care prior to the training.
