Life is a Series of Doors! Project (“Bud, Not Buddy”)

In Chapter 5, we learn from Bud’s mother that life is a series of doors. The things in our life that come to an end are the doors closing. When new, good things happen, these are new doors opening!

Think of a time in your life when something came to an end or something sad happened that led to something new or good. On the outside of the first door, write the “closing” event. Open the next door and write about what happened to you after the new door in your life opened! Glue this page to the inside of your “suitcase” box.

How is Bud’s suitcase a symbol in the story? What does it stand for? What does he keep in it? What does each thing inside the suitcase symbolize? If you had a suitcase like Bud, what 8-10 things would you keep in it? Why are those things important to you? Write your answers to all of these questions on notecards to keep in your “suitcase” box. Decorate the outside of the “suitcase” box to reflect you.
