Accreditation Awardsfor Sports Clubs & Societies

Overview

The Accreditation Award is an annual programme designed to help each committee to work collectively towards a goal and at the same time develop any society or sports club that participates. Taking part is not compulsory but it provides the framework for you to be proactive in developing your club or society for the future and improve the experiences of members. The award is on three levels, you decide what level you want to aim for.

Benefits and Rewards

Accreditation achievement is awarded for the next academic year and is only valid for one year.

Financial rewards are also granted for each level of the award and are detailed in the Sports Clubs Policy and Societies Policy.

How to Gain an Award

BRONZE: Complete 9 Essential and 2 Optional elements.

SILVER:Complete bronze and 8 Essential and 4 Optional elements.

GOLD:Complete bronze, silver and 5 Essential and 6 Optional elements.

Submission

Submission can be made at any point during Trimester 1 or 2 but no later than 5pm on Week 6 of Trimester 2. The submission process is detailed below:

  1. Complete 'Submission Form'
  2. Book compulsory 'Submission Meeting' with staff and upload 'Submission Form'
  3. Attend compulsory 'Submission Meeting' with staff member and provide evidence at meeting
  4. 'Submission Form' signed off by staff member
  5. Signed 'Submission Form' sent to Sports or Societies Council for approval
  6. Award certificate presented to Society or Sports Club

Essential /
  • Submit a Club or Society Pack with an activity and finance plan for the year ahead.
  • Have a minimum of 3 committee members registered as volunteers.
  • Have a one-to-one meeting with the Intern or VP Activities.
  • All committee members attend compulsory general volunteer training.
  • One committee member to complete all elements in a level of the Student Leaders Programme.
  • Have an active GCU Students’ Association email account for your society or sports club.
  • Update your information on the GCU Students’ Association website, including a recent photo.
  • Hold 1 event per trimester (dates must be submitted). These events include Workshops, Lectures, General Meetings, Socials, Dinners, Trips, Sporting Activities (outwith BUCS/SSS fixtures).
  • Have a ‘positive’ balance in your account when submitting your application.

Optional /
  • Have a stall at the Freshers’ Fayre.
  • Design poster/ flyer about your Sports Club or Society and distribute on campus.
  • Hold a come and try, information or welcome event for 1st year students and new members.
  • Organise one fundraiser during the academic year.
  • Submit 5 good quality photographs from your events to GCU Students’ Association.
  • Have a member who is a qualified first aider or mental health first aider.
