Bromley Mencap Summer Pilot - Day Opportunities

Following consultation with parents/carers and our service user focus group, Bromley Mencap will be running a pilot project for adults with disabilities during the long summer holiday break from college and adult education.

The project will run for 6 weeks of the holidays and there will be the opportunity to attend on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesdays and Thursdays could be available if there is sufficient demand. Once applications have been received, we will endeavour to offerpeople appropriate age groups and to bewith others with similar interests.

The Scheme will run on the following dates:-

20th, 22nd, 24th, 27th, 29th, 31st July

3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 14th August

17th, 19th, 21st, 24th, 26th, 28th August

The day will start at 10am and end at 3:30pm. Each day will start at the base and end there.

To enable the project to be choice led, participants will plan their day when they first arrive and will select from a wide range of activities. Activities will aim to enhance travel training, independence skills, budgeting skills, access to the local community, preparation for employment, social wellbeing and, most importantly, having fun! Some activities will be based at the project base, while others will be out in the local community.

Each group will cater for 12 adults, who will be supported by a Scheme Leader and 3 members of staff. Our staff are young, vibrant and energetic and are very experienced in supporting people with disabilities and have worked on other Bromley Mencap projects. All staff will receive full training and are DBS checked.

The project will be based at St Luke’s Church Hall, Raglan Road, Bromley, BR2 9NN (map overleaf) and the cost per day will be £45. The costs can be financed either by self funding or Direct Payments. If you have a personal budget you can choose to take part of it as a Direct Payment and use this to pay for our service. We can help complete the paperwork to set this up and assist you with the simple quarterly monitoring required by Bromley Council.

This is an exciting new project for Bromley Mencap and we hope that it will meet the needs of many of our members and their families.
